I am a member of AAA and I see mention of the parking pass. What is it and what do you have to do to get one? Do you get to park free or is there special places to park at the parks? Please help am leaving the end of nov and have to travel one hour away if I have to go get it.

I believe you can only get the AAA parking pass if you arrange your entire trip/visit though AAA

The previous poster is correct, but, in addition, you do not get free parking, however, you do get special parking areas closer to the entrance to the parks.
some AAA clubs will give them to you if you are a member and just ask.
I would call and ask them.

Most of the lots you will do more walking then if you had parked in the regular section. They are not serviced by the trams.

We love the AAA parking pass. We were able to park hop to all 4 parks one day with it!

I have done the same without AAA parking. Please, tell me, what is your point?

My point is, since you asked oh so pleasantly, that we were able to get up-front parking at each park without having to arrive first thing in the am at any of them. Certainly cut down our transit time between parks... especially on Memorial Day. :sunny:

A few times I have had the pass and the AAA parking area was full, but, I am pleased that you were able to use it without any hitches.
MK is the one exception to AAA being an advantage. You still need to get to the T&T area from the lot before you get to the park.

.

And do you think that at least a FEW of the cars in the full area were there because they "borrowed' the pass??? I find the "begging for AAA pasess" that goes on here kind of interesting..... Those "rows" aren't that big and when you give the pass to someone who didn't buy thier package you are contributing to the overload of the lots.

I have no problem with AAA package purchasers getting this perk (considering the issues I read about on the resorts board with AAA, you may well have earned it) I just think it's interesting that there are at least a few people passing thier pass on. WHen you can't find a space, think about the impact of the "passed on" passes.

I don't find it that much of a big deal to park in the regular lot and take the tram.
I cannot say anything about borrowing passes, I can say that AAA has been known to pass them out to any member that asks for them, me included.

Each AAA region has its own 'rule' regarding distribution of the AAA Diamond Parking Pass. Generally, it's only given when you purchase a Walt Disney World Package from AAA, although some regions/offices give them along with ticket purchases, and it may be possible to find an office/region that hands them out to any member who asks.

There is a limited number of AAA Diamond spaces in each major park's lot, adjacent to the HP parking area and, as indicated above, NOT serviced by trams.

There ARE blackout periods - for example, I think all of December is blacked out at the Magic Kingdom. In addition to printed blackout dates, there may be other times when the passes are not honored due to expected crowds.

Most notably with the Magic Kingdom, anyway, you still need to walk from the designated parking spaces to the center aisle, then under a roadway, back up the other side, past where the trams drop off, to either the monorail or ferry. I'm NOT referring to anybody here, but... there are Guests who do everything within their power to reduce the distance between their Disney resort rooms and the bus stops/pools/dining to mere FEET because they don't want to walk "too far", who could then end up walking a quarter mile in the morning and the same distance in the evening to get from and to their car because they think it's more convenient :rolleyes1

And what's even more interesting about what CarolA finds interesting is the people who BUY these passes on ebay.

I will agree that taking a bus to MK involves less walking than using an AAA parking pass. At the end of a day in WDW a hundred yards should not determine your breaking point!

We tested the 'which is faster' theory a few weeks ago when we took the bus to MK from Pop for the sole purpose of seeing if it is truly faster than driving and using AAA parking. It wasn't. If there had been no wait for a bus, or a line to wait for a bus, it would have been. We got on the 3rd bus after waiting for a scootered person to be loaded. The bus to MK was packed like sardines, and while the bus back to Pop was pleasantly empty, there was a 15-20 minute wait for it... at least the wait area at MK was shaded.

YMMV

And at the other three parks, I'd agree with you (because yeah, the walk to the AAA Diamond spaces could be an additional hundred yards over a tram to the main parking lot.

The OP doesn't say where they're staying, but for anyone staying onsite, using the pass to park at the Magic Kingdom is, in my opinion, ridiculous.
Drive to park and park in AAA space: Park; walk to center aisle; walk under roadway; walk up other side of underpass; walk past ticket windows; walk to and up monorail ramp, or to and onto ferry; ride around/across Seven Seas Lagoon to MK; walk down monorail ramp or over ferry dock - to security and then park entrance.
Use Disney (bus) transportation: Go to bus stop at your resort; board bus; relax; exit bus; walk directly to security and then park entrance.

You forgot the 'waiting in line to board bus' and finding a seat on the bus only to be glared at by someone with several toddlers who got on the bus last yet still expects your seat until some guy with a larger than average fanny stands exactly 3 inches from of you blocking her glare. You may call that relaxing... but I find walking a bit less stressful!

Personally, a walk from the car to the monorail is not far... and no need to wait for a tram. The kids generally consider the monorail their first ride of the park... but there are plenty who like the bus.

In any case... it's like that mastercard commercial...

Vacation to WDW: $4000
Pal Mickey: $75
Getting from your resort to the Magic Kingdom without smelling a stranger: Priceless!

Again... YMMV ;)
