Anyone else have this happen?? Disney charged me $50 when changing a package in any way that results in a lower total price.

When did this start happening? I booked the package w/dining through AAA and when I called to apply the new code they said there was a service charge of $50. Not trusting AAA (I always always always book myself, but was afraid no other discount would be available) I called CRO and they confirmed this policy. What gives?? Not that $50 is a big deal but the principle of the thing is REALLY bugging me. Guess I wont book ahead any more.

10/11-I edited this title so that it would not be misleading-upon further reflection I've decided AAA was responsible for the charge.--Christine

That may be a AAA charge. Disney does not charge any fee to modify a reservation outside of 45 days.

and it appears they do charge $50 for a change that results in a rate change:

"For a change made 44 days or less prior to arrival or that results in a rate change, there is an additional change fee of $50 per package plus any change fees assessed by hotels or other suppliers."

I was wanting to add dining to my room/tix package before 45 days out, but it seems that means it will cost me $50 to do so. Maybe if I cancel the whole thing and start over? As of now, there is still availability for my resort and time frame.

I just checked the policy myself and that exacty what it is. $50 fee for a rate change. Thats really bogus...

Id cancel and rebook myself but I booked through AAA and they charge a $50 fee to cancel anytime. Either way Im getting handed the screws.

Disneys suits are really starting to bug me.

Greatbooks,

I don't believe that CRO will charge you the $50 change fee if you add on to your ressie. I had a AAA package with dining at POFQ and when the new codes came out I upgraded to the WL and they didn't charge me the $50 change fee, only the $115 to upgrade-and I was only 40 days out from my trip.

AAA does not charge a fee for that service. I would call your AAA TA and see exactly what is going on. As long as you are at LEAST 45 days out, there should be no fee.

On my documentation there is fine print that states "AAA charges $50 for cancellation after deposit received."
Deposit was received the day I booked as I used a credit card.

If you are not within 45 days of arrival, Disney did not charge you-AAA did! Our AAA also charges a change fee, a cancel fee, the sun is shining fee..... :rotfl:

To me this is reason #2 why NOT to use AAA. A 10 minute MAX phone call earned them $50. That would work out to be $300 an hour! I want a job doing changes for AAA. :rotfl2:

Well after much insistance on my part the fee was removed from my balance. I dont know exactly who charged me but I do know this:
I DEFINETLY wont use a TA again as she did proactively NOTHING for me except act as a cashier.
Dont get me wrong- the amount was minimal but not the point. It was the principal. I asked her point blank the day I booked if I could apply a code, if one came out, and in no way did she mention a $50 charge on their part or Disneys. In fact she said there would be NO CHARGE. Whatever...

Thanks for this info.

And, I just asked my AAA TA about fees because I wanted to drop a day off my package and make that day a room-only reservation (otherwise I would have too many dining plan days). She was able to make that change--no fee, because it was still before the 45 day mark (I'm keeping that email, just in case). I'm glad you got your "fee" waived SYDNCLAIRESMOM, as something was not right there. The policy seems open to interpretation and maybe it depends on who you are using as a go between with Disney. It is the principle AND the cost--the $50 would matter to me!

Remember that there is no single thing called "AAA"---each club is largely independent, though they do share some things. But, the AAA-Michigan club may have a different fee structure than, say, AAA-MidAtlantic.

(And, FWIW, I wouldn't book with AAA-MI for anything these days either, as AAA-MI now charges a $25 "booking fee" for WDW packages. Hello! That's why Disney pays *you* a commission.)

I am wondering why they charge a $25 dollar fee when that is the job?? I work for AAA in MA and we dont charge anything for it! Even if there is a change on a package due to Disney having a promotion be it 10 days before or 2, we call and apply it (if possible.) Why would we charge for that? It doesnt even make sense!!!

skbassnet,
Hallelujah!! My TA was SOOOOO inept I cant even stand it. She literally JUST took my money and did nothing else for me. She didnt even tell me about the diamond card and its perks. I found out about it from another post here. Come to think of it, I dont even know if I will be getting one. Hmmm... time to make another annoying phone call.

My AAA agent/office does not charge a fee for Disney bookings.

I think they may charge a fee for airline tickets, but I never use them to fly to WDW anyway, as SWA is the only direct flight choice, and their internet rates are always the best deal for us.

Sounds like your AAA needs a slap up side the head. :teeth:

With all the extra fee's Disney is charging, no need to give out general public codes anymore.

I refuse to allow a handfull of over paid CEO to invade on my Magic. A $50 fee to upgrade. Big bonuses this year with all this extra fee money coming in. Charge your fees! Swan and Dolphin are looking mighty good.

I just cant stand how one part of an organization (AAA) can be so different from another! Why is one 1. Charging for a Disney package and 2. Not telling you your benefits??? You are supposed to get the Diamond discount card, the voucher to the AAA lounge in the Magic Kingdom and also get a voucher for up front parking (if you are renting a car). Sheesh...it isnt that difficult!!!
