AAA membership: what are other benefits?

I saw somewhere that you get a 10% discount at Ariel's Grotto in DL. Can anyone confirm this?

Also saw this on the AAA site for Barnes and Noble. Can only be used online.
"*Discount applied automatically. Offer not available at Barnes & Noble retail stores. Cannot be combined with Barnes & Noble Membership or Student Advantage Programs"

For us, one of the biggest savings is maps. I forgot to get a map of Kentucky before we left for my Grandmother's funeral and had to pay $6 for one at a gas station! I would have got a better map for free if I had remembered before we left. Our AAA will also let you order maps, triptiks, and guide books online and they will send them to you (and they don't charge for postage either!). I haven't had to be towed for a while, thank goodness, but that has come in handy as well. It was also great the last time we went to Universal and we got 10% off at all the shops and restaurants. We've bought Busch Gardens-Williamsburg, Paramount's Kings Dominion, SeaWorld and Universal tickets for a discount. We did have to buy them before we left, it was not a discount available at the gate. I have a AAA Visa that used to earn $ off for AAA items so my last two years were free anyway. But, they've discontinued the best perks (5% off gas) so we don't use it anymore.

This must be AAA's best-kept secret!

We get 5% off gasoline when we pay with the AAA CC at the pump. We get 1% off travel purchases at AAA, 2% off preferred partners travel purchases when we pay with AAA CC.

We earn a $50 voucher for every $5,000 in charges. We just used $150 in vouchers toward our plane tickets for May trip to WDW, and got an additional $27 off for using the AAA CC.

Last November, we used two vouchers to get three adult "max access" passes to Kennedy Space Center.

Ellester: We are still getting 5% off gas purchases.

Members can also print Trip-tiks from home. Saves a trip to your local AAA.

I feel bad replying - I only replied so I could subscribe to this thread! I don't know any more discounts, but I love hearing about them.

Thanks, all, for the information!!

I don't know about other states, but in CA you can pay your car registration at a AAA office.

We do this since the DMV has "lost" our check when we've mailed it in the past.

It helps - no more standing in line just to fork over a hundred bucks or so!

I also got a great rate on auto insurance through AAA. Which can only be had if you are a memeber. I save a couple hundred dollars.

With ours they still did 5% off gas IF you spent a certain $ amount per month. We only used it for gas, so it basically wiped out the discount. Plus they discontinued the vouchers, not sure why. We switched to a Citi Dividends card that gives 5% cash back at gas stations, grocery stores, and drug stores and 1% cash back on everything else. I did like the AAA when the benefits were in force. We got two years free membership and paid for our Busch Gardens tickets. But, the cash back from Citi is nice and I can use it anywhere!

Ellester...

That's weird. I just got another voucher last week. So basically they took all your benefits away, so why have the card? Does not make much business sense.

I joined AAA specifically to get the Disney vacation package discount that they were running in January. $25 Disney Dollars was a nice plus. (Their current special is for Universal). We also rent a car at WDW and being able to park close to the gate in the AAA lot is going to be nice! Thanks to all you DISers who responded, I just ordered an Orlando street map as well as a FL map - for FREE! Gotta love the DIS (oh, and AAA of course)

That sounds like a great perk, but unfortunately we can't do that in AL. I have a family member who works for AAA in FL and she says that even though it's all AAA, every state is actually a different group with different rules and regulations.

Just fyi...you can subscribe to a thread without replying. At the top of each thread there are some pulldown menus on the right. Under Thread Tools, choose Subscribe to this Thread.

AAA provides a discount card for prescription drugs with certain pharmacies. CVS is one of them but they have a comprehensive list on their website.

Thanks for this tip- It is good for medications not covered by insurance.

Yes, and you can also use that discount card if you have NO drug insurance!

Fortunately, I rarely need a prescription but when I have & used the card, it's saved me up to 20% off meds. As high as meds are, every bit helps! ::yes::

AAA also has a benefit that we used last summer. Our car broke down while we were out of town. They not only paid for our towing but also a rental car, hotel and meals while our car was being fixed. If it ever happens to you, SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS AND GET REIMBURSED BY AAA!

I believe this is ONLY if you are a PLUS member.

We joined AAA last year because they had a deal for new members (buy one 3 day universal ticket get one 3 day ticket free) that easily paid for the membership. I thought I 'd never use it since we had just bought a new car but lol I have called AAA twice this year (locked my keys in the car at the IKEA parking lot and also in my own driveway :teeth: )I'd rather call AAA than my DH  I definitely will renew my membership.

P.S. I also saved about $200 on hotels!

Yup, basically they made the card worthless to me. I think maybe our local AAA (AAA Carolinas) must have backed out of the deal. We got a letter last fall stating that all points would have to be used by November 2004, but they still have a "great APR" and still send us those nifty checks! Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.

I called AAA two weeks ago to see if I could get a discount on MYW plus dining pacakage that I already had booked (thorugh Disney). I was able to get $170 off my package price and they transfered my reservation (including deposit). I also will get the Diamond card good for discounts to shopping at downtown Disney, the AAA parking pass, and the free drink in MK. My AAA mermbership has already more than paid for itself and this vacation is the only thing I have used it for.

We just spent $400 for new brakes and DH asked if the dealer offered any AAA discounts. They did and we saved 10% Never hurts to ask! :flower:
