This is probably a silly question but is it worth it to join AAA to get the Disney room discount? We are looking at a trip in mid June and it does not look like there will be any public codes available so this may be our only discount option. Is there a waiting period after you join AAA before you can use their travel discounts? Also do both my husband & I have to join or just one? Thanks for the help!

I joined for 2 reasons---1. Disney and 2. Pearle Vision 30% Discount (which saved us $180).

I saved $170 with AAA for our Disney trip this August. No waiting period to use your AAA card. Only 1 person has to join and that person has to be going on the trip and staying in your same room.

No discounts otherwise for us either, so so far AAA has been the way to go for us. $170 is better than nothing, right? Plus in January, when we booked, we also got $50 off the package and we'll get another $25 Disney gift card when checking in at the hotel. So really we saved $245 total.

I am not a AAA member, but curious too if it's worth becoming a member just for the AAA discount on Disney trips. How far in advance do the AAA discounts usually become available? We typically plan our trips at least 6 months in advance, sometimes longer. So would we book at the rack rate say 10 months out and then hope for a AAA discount to become available? How much of a discount have people gotten for Value, Mod, or deluxe? Our next trip this October we decided to try renting DVC points and are staying at BCV for 7 nights, with an average price of $170 a night for a studio. If we were to pay rack rate from Disney for this room it would cost $400 a night. That's more than 50% off... :cool1: would we ever get that kind of a discount with AAA?

No, we got a discount of 15% off with AAA at the BCVs. The rate you have sounds really good but I am really scared of renting points as I don't know anyone that does it :(.

That would be a great deal for us because I am looking at two rooms at a value resort.

We also got 15% off Saratoga with AAA but the APH rate is far better.Saved 40% on AKL with APH. Just depends on if disney are doing an APH rate when you are going.
Would also love to rent DVC points but don't see how you can know whether your reservation is actually going to be there when you arrive at the resort.

That 40% off rate sounds great it would be great if we got it. We went the same time last year and stayed at OKW but the APH rate was not much better than the AAA rate and by the time we would have bought the AP we would have been worse off.

To the OP

The AAA discount varies slightly depending on time of year.. But..

Generally speaking.. if you stay at a Deluxe or Moderate.. for more than 2 or 3 nights.. you can recover the cost of AAA membership and more in savings.

It's a little tougher in a value. You normally gotta stay four or five nights in a value to break even.. depending on how much your AAA is in your part of the country.

Or if you are resort hopping over to Universal, one night in one of their resorts will pay for the AAA membership, and your savings at Disney will be gravy.

To the original poster:

We did it! I joined AAA this year just for the Disney Discount, saved us 400 for our June package. You can call them and they can give you a quote before you join. I was just honest with her and let her know that I was considering joining just for that reason, she was very sweet, checked for me and we ended up joining due to the discount. We are going to do the AAA story hour at Magic Kingdom and have enjoyed the perks of AAA having been locked out of our car and gotten a trip tick for a spring break trip too. I highly recommend it! :thumbsup2

Is there anywhere online that I can find out what the different AAA Disney perks/benefits are without being a AAA member yet?

Someone once told me that they got 10% discount at World of Disney with their AAA card, not sure if the assistant may have made a mistake though.

I looked for this too, and I don't believe it is available, at least I couldn't find it anywhere. That is why I called my AAA office, explained the situation and she quoted me that way.

Does anyone know if you can use it in World of Disney or at any other places???

Can anyone tell me what exactly do you get from AAA once you book your trip? I received a conformation letter for our accomadations. I emailed her asking if she had a brochure listing all the perks. She said she was out of them but would mail me one when she gets them. So today I get it but it really tells me nothing in detail. It did mention there's is a 40 page how to book which you get when you book your trip and they receive you $200 deposit which I sent. Anyway I'm trying to find out who do I call to reserve the storytime with a character. Do I need a voucher, how far in advance do I need to book, which days is it offered? I feel my ta really isn't much help. I feel like I might miss on somethings that I should be getting with AAA but how am I suppose to know what, if she doesn't tell me. kwim?

When I used AAA last year, they booked everything for me,including the storytime with a character. We had Alice read us a story, each child got to sit with her,ask her questions, and get autographs.Your agent should have dates and times and you tell her which time you want. You can not pick your character.I received most of my info 1 month before my trip.Have fun,AAA was worth it to me,and I'll be using my TA again for my next Disney trip.(maybe sooner than my family thinks!);)

when you book with AAA, before you leave on your trip you will/should get a package with your ticket info, etc. etc. and in it is a AAA diamond card (just a perferated card you tear out) that you can use at the world of disney in DTD and get 10% off your purchases. not sure if you have to spend a certain amount, I forgot. but it sabed me about 15 dollars, better than nothing! also i know this is not disney related, but if you use the wal mart pharmacy you get AAA discounts, too.
