AAA discount??

my dad booked his WDW hotel direct & i told him i thought he could get a discount with him being in the AA so he called back - lady said he would have to book through AAA or AA website to do this.
Is this right????
If its not right what should he do??
Any info would be greatly appreciate3d

You don't have to book AAA/CAA rates through the Auto Club. Room-only reservations with an AAA discount can be booked directly through the Disney Reservation Center at (407) W-DISNEY or a travel agent who specializes in Disney travel. Just ask if there is an AAA or CAA discount for your dates and resort.

i just asked if there was an AAA discount and if any got it,all you would have to show is your aa card if they ask for it upon checkin

they way it works is that the aa is affiliated to ARC eroupe(blue,red with a white swish)which in turn is afilliated with AAA usa.
So if AAA usa ofers any discount and your a member of the AA your entiled to it
on average you can get a 20% discount on rooms
Last year we got rooms at pop for £35 a night in aug for a few nights,then booked free dinning but that had to be at rack rate,
it cannot be used in conjunction with any outher offer

quick discription of dicounts with AAA from mousesavers
American Automobile Association (AAA) and Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) members qualify for "room only" discounts almost year-round, though there are a limited number of rooms available for each date. You can generally save about 10-20% at the Disney resort hotels, depending on the season.

In general, the discounts run as follows:

During Value Season you can get up to 15% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 20% off at the Value and Moderate resorts and the Ft. Wilderness campsites.

During Regular Season you can usually get up to 10% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 15% off at the Value and Moderate resorts and the Ft. Wilderness campsites.

During Peak Season and Summer Season you can usually get up to 10% off at the Disney Deluxe and Disney Vacation Club resorts, or 15% off at the Value and Moderate resorts.

The only time AAA/CAA discounts don't usually apply is Holiday Season (around Christmas) at the Value and Moderate resorts

Thanks Paul, even with 20% off the August rate it still only brings it down to £200 for our 3 nights. Paid £210 thru Hotelopia so not worth paying £15 to cancel.

Hi Vicks, honestly nothing brave about DIY trips to Florida, its the easiest place in the world to arrange anything. Out of all my trips below there are only 4 packages, all the rest are DIY. We only booked the packages because prices were too good to refuse.
If you do a DIY trip use rpoints.com(my choice) or Quidco.com they give cashback on anything you buy. (even 3% cashback on Virgin packages, just got £82 for our trip at Xmas)
Once registered with a cashback site you click thru that site to buy everything. This year we have been getting great rates with Hotelopia(Tui/Thomsons) there has been a discount code giving 15% off (now only 11%) plus 10% cashback thru rpoints. We are staying at the Country Inn and Suites LBV for £20/night incl breakfast and inroom internet, for 17 nights. Then a 4 night RCCL cruise £200 (Cruisedirect.com 3% rpoints) then ending with 3 nights at POR. Got free flight going out with Virgin miles paid for return flight.
The whole package I have put together for £2,600 for 3 of us August 1st-25th (Flights, hotels, cruise, car hire). Virgin wanted about £4,500 without a cruise.
To pay package prices we would only go once a year, DIY we are going 3 times a year just now.

There are other hotel sites like Alpharooms, travelrepublic.co.uk etc bit Hotelopia have been reaaly good this year. If you ever try DIY post questions about it on Dis, someone will help.

...it all sounds so easy...but im a feardy !!
money is a bit off an issue just now but you prices seem very possible.
we are hoping to go back to The World in oct 09....when would i start planning??

I start with flights when they release them 11 months out. Helps if you can be flexible, go indirect or midweek. Hotel I am always looking but usually see offers between 4-6 months to travelling. Car wait until I see an offer(free upgrade usually)
Always check package prices though, We once did Oct for 3 weeks, Virgin flights were £700 each, booked packed with same flights and 3 weeks hotel for about £550 each on VH.
Its time consuming but I get a lot of satisfaction out of DIY.

i think sometimes it can just be how you word something that gets the right result!!!

Is he being billed in £GBP or $USD?

In order to have the AAA discount applied to an existing reservation, the reservation must have been made direct with Disney CRO, it cannot be applied to UK bookings.

Wow, really glad I came across this thread!

I'm planning our wedding for next year and trying to save my family as much money as possible by helping them to book DIY.

Thanks for the link to rpoints, I have now signed up for that. Will also be using AAA discounts for booking rooms - can I only book rooms for the cardholder or would I be able to sort out the entire party with one AAA number?

We are using Airmiles to pay for the small amount of car hire we want.

Sorry, CRO means "Central Reservations Orlando".

If he paid in pounds then no, he won't able able to apply the AAA discount. If he is able to cancel without penalty, it might be worth calling reservations in the USA and seeing what the price is like. With the great exchange rate and the possibility of the AAA discount, there is a good chance it will be cheaper.

as Frances999 said to get it you have to phone the usa CRO,not the uk number.The uk will not offer you any discounts offered by the usa site

Rpoints takes a bit to get used to but is a great site, I have had over £1,000 cashback in 3 years.
This link will help you http://www.rpoints.com/hcp/ whenever you get cashback look at quidco if they are offering more then do a highest cashback claim. For Eg. Privelege car insurance only gets £45 but Quidco pays £100 so you have to claim thru this link, they then update your cashback to £100.
