AAA discount?

I got a quote from AAA for a dining plan package and the discount for the package was less than the AAA discount on just the room only, is this common?

I was thinking that the dining plan might be a better deal for us if it were discounted too, but I don't think we'll do it now. We generally don't eat that many sit down meals or the little extras that are included in the plan (like appetizers and deserts) so it would be spending more than we normally would.

Has anyone found the dining plan to be discounted in a package?

On the AAA discount only the room portion is discounted. Sometimes, the package price is higher because the room discount is not available for the AAA package. You would therefore be paying fullprice for the whole thing. Other people here have had that problem, and their AAA agent didn't say there was no discounted rooms available, just gave them the dollar amount.

The other problem could be that some AAA travel agencies seem to add a small fee for booking your trip for you. Others don't add this. You don't have to use your local AAA, check on here for a recommendation of a good one. I have seen several in the past few months.

I agree with you if you don't usually eat 2 full meals with desserts and an appetizer at dinner, and a snack then the plan might not be the way to go. We could definitely eat cheaper then the plan, but we thought it would be fun to eat with the plan. Not a money saver though (at least no the way we would usually eat.)

I originally called the general AAA number from the website and the message told me they were going to add the $25 fee. I wasn't too happy, but then once they put me in touch with the local AAA location there was no fee attached.

I used AAA to book everything. I got 6 nights stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge, 6 day park hopper, and the dining plan for 3 people (one child) for a total of $2859.00 but if I had booked with Disney I would have paid 3165.51. I saved almost $300.00. BUT if I booked "room only" I would have saved about $300.00 too. So I think the tickets and meal plan I paid full price for and the room got discounted.

I hope this helps. Oh and I am a gold member with AAA which I am not sure if this helps or matters. :3dglasses

I'm saving about $120 for the room only rate, and I was only saving about 60 on the package. I guess that the disney package had some tax or fee savings over the quote I got from AAA, since I didn't get any detailed quotes.

Either way, I think it's too costly for DW and I to use the dining plan.

Thanks for your comments!

Yes - I booked a package with Disney and rebooked with AAA to get dining plan and keep AAA discount on room. The only discount I really got was on the room - there was no discount on the tickets or dining package. You usually get a few extra perks though for booking with AAA.

I just put a deposit on our December trip. Booking through AAA, 10 nights at WL, 8 day hoppers and dining plan for 4 of us, both DS are considered adults.

Our AAA rate was 401 less than Disney and they did not charge any additional fees.
