AAA Discount on Existing MYW Package Reservation Made Through Disney?

Hi,

I apologize if this has been asked before, but after searching through the last several days' worth of posts I still haven't been able to find the answer I'm looking for.

I booked a MYW + dining package through Disney last week. I am not a member of AAA at this point, but if I was to become a member, would I be able to apply the AAA MYW package discount to my existing reservation made through Disney? Or in order to get the AAA discount, would I have had to initially made the reservation through AAA? Just wondering if I should sign up for AAA tomorrow in order to get the discount...

Any clarification on this from anybody "in the know" would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Amy

Unless Disney changes something, you would not be able to keep the MYW + dining and also get the AAA discount. You can book a discounted AAA room and get MYW tickets through Disney, but they won't let you add on the dining and still keep the AAA discount. The current MYW packages are at rack rate for the room.

If you want the discount, call a AAA travel agency and (subject to availability), you should be able to book the discounted room, tickets and dining. Plus if you book in the month of January, you get 25 Disney Dollars for packages of 3 nights or more.

Just make sure the AAA travel agent gives you a quote that's cheaper than what you currently have. Disney's computers have been out of whack and it took me several tries to get the discounted AAA reflected in the AAA Magic Your Way package. But it saved me $231!

Now, they might be able to transfer your existing reservation over, but I'm not sure. It doesn't hurt to ask.

Hope this helps!

I think you can call and apply the AAA discount through Disney. When you book a room only you can apply AAA discount so I believe this can be done with packages as well. Anyone know for sure?

You can not apply the AAA discount on a pkg you already booked through Disney. I tried it. When I called Disney they said I would have to book it through my AAA then when I book a pkg through AAA cancel the one I have with Disney. So that is what I am doing. AAA saved me over 450.00. You can't get the dining pkg unless you go through AAA.

You can get a room only AAA discount through CRO. But as Leslie32 said AAA discounted packages can only be booked through an AAA agent.

Speaking of AAA rates. I just got my quote for my upcoming trip this December. The packate (tickets and room) is actually more through AAA. Wierd, huh? I'm going to call back and see what's up. Wierd.

My AAA rate was about $300 less than Disney. I just can't decide whether to get a package or do it separatly. Any suggestions??

Thanks,
Christy

You really need to check into that or call another AAA because it shouldn't be more. Like I said in a previous post mine was almost 450.00 cheaper then disneyworld, so your AAA must not be up to speed on the new pkgs or disneyworld computers are messed up again.

Good Luck

I've heard that some AAA agencies charge booking fees.....

I actually called back and told her that her prices were more and asked her to be sure she was using the AAA rate for the rooms. She said she was and agreed it was strange. She said she added nothing extra in and there was no booking fee.

I'm going to call another agency.

Definately call another one. Mine didn't charge a booking fee. I don't understand why she quoted you more, that is totally strange.

While we are on the AAA subject, I am using DU (love them) and used the AAA rate to book three rooms. I am considering buying an AP if the rates make it worth my while. Here is the question, if I purchase the AP card and get the rooms at an AP rate, can I ADD the meal plan? Right now, with AAA rate on the rooms only, I cannot get the meal plan (rack rate only). Anyone know this one?

The Magic Your Way Dining plan cannot be added to a room-only reservation, only to a package. However, with an AP, you are eligible for the Disney Dining Experience card, which can get you up to 20% off of many meals.

Thanks, thought that might be the case.

I do like the idea of the DDE but we are three separate sets of folks (relatives) and I was planning on only buying one AP mainly for the discounts that I can apply to the three rooms. The DDE will be helpful to my family, but not necessarily to the rest of the gang as we won't be all together all the time and we exceed the number of people allowed to use one DDE.

Ah, choices, choices, choices.

Something that agents (AAA and others) are often not aware of is that Disney adds trip insurance automatically to any PACKAGE reservation.

It runs about $45 per adult in the party.

They will remove it if you request, but it adds automatically to any package.

If you price the room and tickets seperately, and then try to book a package, this is why it often does not add up correctly.

Ask either your agent, or Disney CRO to make sure this is removed if you want an accurate comparison quote to a room and tickets purchased separately.

You can add the insurance back at the end of the quote if you wish, or purchase the insurance through a third party.

I had this exact issue yesterday!

I called Disney direct and got quoted $2288.35 for room and MYW tix (1 night CR and 5 nights BC plus 7 day MYW tix). This rate is the AAA rate. CM says that a pkg through AAA would be more cost effective, but I MUST book through AAA.

So I called AAA Travel and get quoted a pkg including room/MYW tix/airfare/transfers/insurance/MYW dining for $2952.90.

By my calculations, we are saving a couple hundred bucks with the pkg through AAA because of the dining option. At $35/day per person that's $70 for 7 days (or $490). Plus this option is only available with a AAA pkg. But theoretically if I added it to the room/tix only quote from Disney it's $490+$2288.35= $2778.35. This means we STILL have to buy plane tickets at around $250-$300 per person which puts us over $3000 if I book everything seperately through Disney!

I think AAA pkg wins by a couple of hundred bucks and we WILL use evry ounce of those dining options!

I have an existing resv for disney - 8nts/8mywticketdays/mealplan. Priced at $2492 through disney...

Called AAA and they could help at all... they had only a 7 day ticket or a 10 day ticket. Thing was the same package - with the 7 day (1 less) ticket from AAA was $2544.

I called my local office, but got a 'central' rep who did have to call disney a couple of times to ask about things.
