AA baggage question

My sister has AAdvantage and has a frequent flyer number. Does she get free checked bags? If so, how many? And does she also get free checked bags for someone in her traveling party, and if so how many?

We are flying out tomorrow morning and I'm trying to find out. TIA!

When my husband had status with AA, we never paid for baggage as long as we were all booked on the same itinerary with the same confirmation number and he might have also put it on his AA card, I can't remember.

AAdvantage is their loyalty program. The baggage question depends on her status or if she has specific credit cards with them. Your question cannot be answered accurately with only the information you provided. As far as additional guests having her benefits, that depends on if she booked your tickets under her. Example, my husband is Platinum Pro Status and he also has an executive card. He gets 3 free checked bags and we all get to check at least one bag free, but only if he booked our flights so we are on the same record locator number. I have an AAdvantage number, but it has no benefits as I do not fly enough. If I book my own flight, I don get any of his benefits even I am flying with him. If your sister has AAdvantage Gold or above, she would get one free checked bag for her and anyone else travelling on the same reservation. I get the same thing having the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select credit card.

Just being a member of AAdvantage and having a frequent flyer number isn't enough to get free checked bags. If she has a higher loyalty tier with AA, then she might. But being a 'basic' AAdvantage member doesn't get you free checked bags. That's also for domestic flights; international flights have different rules about checked bags. Your sister should check her AAdvantage account to see if she has any status-the website will also tell her what benefits she gets at whatever tier she is.
