Hi,

I have secured a AAA discount on my FW cabin booking in October. This represents a saving of $280 or around £160, so is worth having.

Now, I have to join the AA!!
BF and I have company cars covered by manufacturer so we don't need AA cover but it looks like it may be worth £40 joining fee to get the discount on the accomodation.

However many people have said that they are not asked to show their AA cards and some don't take them at all!

So, what would you do? :confused3
Would you chance not joining and hoping that you don't get asked for the card and if you do just pay rack rate? :rolleyes1

Or would you join?

Finally, although the AA website says that discounts for AAA are available to AA members, one agent I asked said that Disney do not recognise this - has anyone used AA to get Disney discounts before?

Many Thanks,

Disney do recognize the AA and provide the AAA discount to all UK AA members. We used the AAA discount for our stay at The Polynesian Resort this year. We were not asked for our membership card - they had no proof that we were members. However, some people on the US Resorts board have been asked for proof before. I think it is worth paying the £40 to join simply for peace of mind. You wouldn't want to have to pay rack-rate when it would have been so easy to join the AA before. :)

If you book "room only" then you can (typically) receive up to 15% off at the Deluxe Resorts or 20% off at the Values, Moderates and the Ft. Wilderness.

Personally if you are staying in the value resorts its not really that much of a discount £285 with AA or £308 of the Disney Webiste (no discount).

Also when we booked with the AA discount, we had to give our travel agent the membership number that is printed across the card for the discount.

was tahat a travel agent here or in the states

I have used the AA for discounts at Universal, they have good hotel discounts and also 10% Hard Rock cafe.

Thanks for the replies so far.....

Disney don't ask for the membership number when booking over the phone and I know that many people haven't bothered to take their cards.

I think, as Frances says, for peace of mind it may be worth the £40.

Just in case though, does anyone happen to know the format of AA membership numbers? How many digits, is it a mix of digits and numbers? I'm guessing that if they take the number it is just a formality...so I could probably get away with forgetting the card and phoning home for the number...hmmm one for my conscience. :rolleyes1

Thank you very much for posting this, I had no idea you could use AAA(AA) discounts for resorts! I have my TA looking for a code for our upcoming stay, I hope she finds one :)

regarding being asked for proof of membership..
we've never used the AAA discount....rather we always use an AP discount...
until this year we were never asked for proof of an AP...
this year, we were asked at every resort....it's part of the check in program they follow (to ask to see the AP).....
so maybe that's also now true of the AAA membership....

Wow I didnt know about this either. We are planning to book 4 rooms at one of the delux resorts so this could save us quite a few $'s. Can somebody let me know how you go ahead and get the discount, do you have to phone directly or is there a option on the net to do this?

Also what else does your AA card get you discount on?

Thanks
Bekki

It was with a travel agent in the States.

I don't need the AA card for the recovery as I have a plan with my smart car, I only bought it for the discounts. I presume to get the discounts at Universal you will need to show your card. To be honest £40 isn't that much if the discounts are beneficial.

hi everyone
i didn't know about this either  my plan was to stay at pop for 10 days (booking flights and pop with virgin)and then going direct with disney to stay at the poly for our last 4 days (we will be getting married here)so using the AA discount would be very handy :teeth:

thanks eve ::MinnieMo

Thanks Lisa,

Do you have any more info on the travel agent, i.e webpage, email etc?

Thanks

Bekki, let me make sure its ok to give her email address out and then I will PM you.

Congrats on the wedding, I did a Disney Wedding last December, best day of my life!! :teeth:

Hi! I don,t think the AA discount will apply for your 4 nights at the Poly, as I assume you are booking this as part of a package wedding deal thru disney.

I think to get the discount you will have to seperate your acconadation from the wedding package....Just book the poly room only thru disney and then book your package minus the accomadation, as long as you are spending at least 4 nights on property it doesn't have to be booked as part of the wedding package. :sunny:

Bekki, give Dreams Unlimited a try. They come very highly recommended on the boards and I found the service to be exceptional. They wil apply the AAA discount for you and even continue to search for discount codes after you book, meaning that the total cost may go down from what you were originally quoted. They will also make all your ADRs for you for free and send you a great itinerary. Highly recommended!
