Hi, Everyone --

I'm going to be driving from NY down to WDW next week (WOO HOO!!!!). On the return trip (BOO HOO), I've been thinking about driving from WDW over to the Daytona area and taking A1A along the coast up to around St. Augustine before picking up I-95. Is this a crazy idea? How much time will it add to the trip as opposed to just taking I-4 over to I-95? Any suggestions as to the best way to get from WDW over to Daytona to A1A? Anything else I should know about this route?

Thanks for any help/suggestions. :moped:

A1A is a nice ride along the coast, through a number of beach towns. If you do it, continue on A1A through St. Augustine up to Ponte Vedra, the road goes through the Guana River State Park and has some really nice views of the beach and intracoastal waterway.
If you have some time stop at Fort Matanzas, guarding the Southern entrance to St. Augustine.

Once in Ponte Vedra look for 202 (John Turner Blvd) and take it to 9A, which takes you to I-95 far North of JAX, bypassing a lot of traffic.

To get to A1A just take I-4 to I-95 North, take the Speedway exit, and continue East until you hit A1A (or water, which is not much farther). ;)

it only adds couple of hours with the stop and go and sight seeing i do it all the time on the way back just because i'm not in a big hurry to end my vacation

Thanks for the responses. I think I'll give it a try.

Just a week from today we'll be arriving in WDW. I can't wait!!!!!!

The A1A route is very pleasant and a relaxing drive. You get to see Ocean for part of the trip, and Oldtown St. Augustine is great.
