Plans for Animal Kingdom
Tuesday, September 20

We've been to Animal Kingdom twice. Now, I don't want to offend anyone, but so far we haven't fallen in love with it. Not yet at least. We have resolved to have a better plan this year and to stop whining about how hot it is (which is how we spent most of the time both trips) and just enjoy the heck out of it! We'll see.

Looking back:

Our first trip, 2009.
My girls were so tiny! I love this family picture. Brynn was very curious about Minnie's nose. She was 17 months old and Julia was 3.

Just so you can see what a baby she was way back then. (And that is not sweat on her; she fell in love with the misting fans!)

The issue with this visit (besides it being scorching hot) was that we wasted a lot of time not knowing the layout, show times, and we didn't have an idea of what we'd like or not like and how to go about riding things at the best time.

2010 came and we tried again.

The best thing about AK? FROZEN CHAI LATTE!! I was very pregnant, as you can see, and this worked better than anything for cooling me off. Bonus is that it's delicious! I'd visit AK just to drink one of these babies!
ak3.jpg

The other best thing to come out of AK? This guy. His name is Monkey (creative, right?). In this picture, he's hanging out with Julia, but soon after, his lighter color brother became Julia's pal and Brynn fell in love with Monkey. She still sleeps with him every night. Oh, Monkey. I think I can give you credit for that kid finally sleeping through the night! I love you, Monkey!

Our mistake on this visit was that I was hugely pregnant and couldn't do much of anything. Okay, that wasn't a mistake--that was pretty well planned and charted :lmao:. I was also getting a pretty nasty sunburn. It could have been a good day, had we been fully committed to it. But in the end, it was just ho-hum.

This year will be awesome. I can just feel it. We are going to be Animal Kingdom converts and might even yell, "Nahtahzu!" at people just to drive the point home.

Our plan is one that is very unique to our family, I think, so you might not want to borrow it.

At rope drop, everyone but Brandon will head over to Triceratop Spin. I know, not your typical first ride. No worries, though! Brandon will be taking our tickets and getting FPs for Kilimanjaro Safaris.
We'll meet back up at Expedition Everest. Mamie and I will go through the standby line while Brandon takes the kids and his beloved camera on the Maharajah Jungle Trek.
When they get back, we'll baby swap and Mamie can take the kids for a snack.

With Everest conquered, Mamie, Brandon, and the girls will go get drenched on Kali River Rapids, while Sawyer and I go indulge in mommy's obsession, the Chai Tea Latte!!

Hopefully our FPs for the safari will be ready by this point and we'll go for a quick two week journey!

Depending on the time, we hope to be able to head to Rafiki's Planet Watch and see FOTLK. We'll also probably want to grab some lunch at either Pizzafari or Restaurantosaurus.

While the kids and Mamie play in the Boneyard, Brandon and I will hopefully ride Dinosaur, and then we can make our way out of the park.

We'll need a good nap. A really good rest.

Why?

Because on this night, we PARTY!:woohoo:

Hope you have better success loving Animal Kingdom than we have! I've just kind of accepted that this is not the park for us, and we stick to the other 3. But that is very fair to give it another shot! (and it doesn't hurt that you now have a favorite beverage there to seek out!)

I'm not offended, but I am in the category of loving DAK! I think it is a lot of fun, but I also hate how dreadfully hot it seems (or is?, many argue it is not hotter than the other parks.. I disagree!). Idk what it is about it, maybe because I didn't expect it my first trip with Kayla back in 2005? But something about it makes me giddy! We always have a great time there. this year I am going to try and do one full day, and one mini day to redo things we didn't maybe get to do first time! Although, if we get most stuff done, I may skip it and do something else :D

Great plans, and as always super cute pics of you and your fam!

Frozen Chai Latte....my favorite thing (beside FOTLK) at AK! I have never fallen in love with AK either...let me see FOTLK, ride EE and I'm pretty much good to go somewhere else! :rotfl2: Great pics...the girls look so small...it really is great to watch everyone's kiddies grow on here!

I'm really trying to be fair...I mean, some people love it, right?? I am, however, only giving it about half a day or a little more, and that's on purpose. If we actually end up enjoying it a lot, we'll come back for more later. And if not, well, at least our morning was filled before we nap and go to MNSSHP!

It is hotter than all the other parks. I don't care what anybody says, you can't convince me it's not! The only park I've ever been nearly that hot in is Epcot in the World Showcase in the middle of the day, but even then I felt like trudging along. At AK, I feel like melting.

Frozen Chai at AK, Grey Goose Slushy at Epcot, and I'm a happy girl!
We've never made it to FOTLK, so it's on our list for sure this time. I've never heard a bad thing said about it, and I really think my kids will love it.
They were so little, weren't they! I mean, Brynn is the age now that Julia was in the first pictures! And Julia is starting school in a week:scared1:! Heck, Sawyer was just a belly bump last time we were there!!

I have to say that we really enjoy AK. We are in the group to head right to the safari. It is in my top 3 rides at WDW. I have so many stinking pictures from that ride, it's not even funny anymore. :lmao:

DH really dislikes getting (as he calls it) "damp" so we've only done Kali River Rapids a couple times, so that is one thing off our to do list. I haven't decided if we'll make the trek out to Rafiki's Planet Watch yet or not. I guess it depends on the kids and timing.

And thanks for the chai mention. It's so going on my list of must haves. It looks yummy!!!

We are going to be fighting the TSM rush while you are at AK, but we are going to be partying on Tuesday night, too! My girls (I think) are going as Belle and Minnie Mouse. I'm considering dressing up, but can't decide.

Not offended at all, but we are big-time Animal Kingdom lovers. I hope it grows on you little by little, but if not, it's still good for something different now and then.

I am so glad Monkey came into your lives to bring peace and happiness. :thumbsup2

Playing in the Boneyard is always a hit with our girls.

I'm not a huge fan of being "damp," either, and since Sawyer's not big enough to go on Kali, it will be a perfect time for me to volunteer to go get a frozen chai:thumbsup2!
We love the Safari, too...or at least, as far as I remember I love it. Didn't get to go on it last year due to being pregnant. I know my kids and husband had a lot of fun last year, and I had to hear about and whine that I didn't get to go!!
Maybe we'll see you at the party then!?! We're all dressing up. The more the merrier, right? Our costumes won't be elaborate by any means, but we'll be wearing them.

I think it will grow on us even more. It's not the we don't like it, but rather that we just don't rush to get there or feel the need to go more than one day per trip. I think the fact that I didn't get to ride anything last time put a damper on my mood while we were there. This year we have things all planned out and I'm not pregnant, so it should be fun!

I love Animal Kingdom, but I don't think it would be nearly as much fun pregnant. I hope you all have a better time there this trip. Your plan sounds good and maybe it won't be so hot this year.

We may see you at the party! I think we are planning on walking over sometime around 4pm-ish. DH's dad, sister, brother-in-law, and nephew are all flying in that morning, so we will have to wait for them to check into the Poly and then meet up, but my plan is to get there early.

We like to get our wristbands and trick-or-treat bags and move to the back of the park. That way we miss all the hordes of people that are trying to leave before the party. We usually just catch a counter service dinner before the real party starts!

I'm curious to see how they will do it without the path between Toontown and Tomorrowland this year. That was one of my favorite trick-or-treat spots.

By the way, I did the Safari when I was about two months pregnant a couple of years ago. I requested to sit in the very front and it wasn't as bumpy, but if I were further along, then I would have skipped it. I double-checked it with my ob/gyn before I went specifically...that's how much I love that ride!

Jennifer! Sorry I've been MIA for so long!!

I love all of your plans so far, sounds fantastic!

WTG Sawyer on your first steps! Kasper is just right behind you... he will turn one at the end of August! Can you even believe that...

BTW I'm 26 weeks prego now, just 13 weeks to go!! :lovestruc

I surely hope so! I am ready to enjoy it!

That's our plan. We're going to get there at 4-ish, grab some food, and get the heck out of the way! I can't wait until somebody goes to the first party and posts the map; I want to know how it's going to be set up this year.

:cheer2:WOW! You are already in the home stretch, Mama! I can't believe our babies are growing up so fast. Sawyer's getting faster and steadier at walking now. He's doing it about 90% of the time and only crawls when he's going a short distance from toy to toy or if he's really, really tired.
Glad you're back!

Remember that modified school year calendar that's letting us have a wonderful fall break in September, which led us to head to Disney on a non-crowded week without our darling missing any school?

Well.
That darn calendar means that school just started on August 1:headache:.

And my beautiful oldest child started her first day of kindergarten Monday.
firstday-106.jpg

Here's a very excited Julia (wearing her new glasses:rolleyes:) on her first day. I'm not going to lie...I HATE THIS! I miss her all day long, and so do Brynn and Sawyer. I think she's liking it pretty well, though, and that's all that matters!
Of course she has a princess lunch box, backpack, and nap towel. What's more, when we found her room, it was labeled the "Kindergarten Kingdom," and it is decorated as a castle! There are thrones, a reading turret, kings, queens, knights...needless to say, it's perfect for my princess!

This was one of those things that I stuck in my mind as something that had to happen before Disney World, and now it has been struck from my "To-Do List" that rattles around in my brain. And now?

SIX WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!! Only six more weeks and I'm heading to my happy place!:woohoo:

Julia looks very excited for her first day!!! Wow, I can't believe how early the school year starts! The September break sounds like a nice treat though!

Adorable!!! I know how you feel about kindergarten, my baby starts this year and I'm not sure how that happened! Ugh :(

At least we have Disney to lift our spirits!

Our proposed balanced calendar has us starting July 25th next year. It hadn't passed yet, but if it does, teachers will go back one week before that. :sad2: Won't be much of a summer, but we'll supposedly get two weeks in October, December, and March for breaks. We'll see.

Your school girl is adorable. Good to hear that she is happy! :cutie: We have a school girl, too, now. She has made some new friends and has had fun these last three days, but I think she and her Mommy are both ready for the weekend. ;)

Six weeks will fly by. Our count is nine weeks from Saturday. That doesn't sound bad at all.

WE NEED YOUR HELP, fellow DISers!
As you may remember, we have literally been been funding our Disney trip with pocket change--one income and three kids makes us seek creative ways to pay for things we enjoy!
disney-can-011.jpg

In all honesty, we haven't gotten as far with that as we had hoped, so I've been trying to enter contests. So far, nothing.

A couple of weeks ago, I was on a blog I read, Your Highway in the Sky (Disney-related, duh!), and they began a contest called the Make a Memory Contest. Basically, you submitted your favorite Disney Memory and a photo in hopes of winning a really nice prize pack, which includes a $50 gift card!:thumbsup2 That may not seem like much, but to a family that collects coins for WDW, it's a fortune!
Julia helped me choose our memory and photo, and we submitted it. Last night I got word that we are in the top three finalists! They couldn't just choose one, so they are putting it to popular vote on facebook. Well, I don't have all that many FB friends and the other two memories are great, so I'm not really holding out hope that I'll win...but could you do me a favor, if you don't mind?

Can you go "like" Your Highway in the Sky on facebook, and click on their album of finalists, then go "like" our memory/photo? That is how you cast a vote for us. Here's a hint: it involves our first trip, Julia, and a very special friend!!:cloud9:

Even if you don't want to do that, I still love you:grouphug:!
I'd really appreciate your vote, though!
