A Wish in the Making

First off I am soooo happy she is bonded with you.
I would just keep trying lessons, unless this keeps up after a few more tries.
Could she be any cuter :cloud9:

I am happy she was able to bond so well. She is the most bonded of my 3 adopted children. I think that is because she came to me at only 16 months. Even though I just adopted her a year ago I was her foster mommy the whole time.

I say pull her out, but maybe try taking her again and see what happens. I do assume if she kept at it she would eventually love it and accept it but at her age unless there a good reason why she needed to know how to swim now I wouldn't worry about it. I remember going when I was a kid and screaming. My mom never took me back I just learned on my own in 6th grade. I loved to swim before that, just never really knew how to really swim, but could doggy paddle and what not. With time that will come.

Has she ever been exposed to a pool before? I think she would still have a great time at GKTW playing in the water with you. Is it safer if a kid knows how to swim, of course, but I am one that doesn't think it is the end of the world if they don't.

She goes in the pool all of the time with me. Yesterday I had her swimming across the pool (with a noodle floatie) beside me.
I'm thinking maybe Wednesday I will have my husband take her. My husband must drop her off at sunday school and awanas or else she screams the whole time for me. When he drops her off she will cry for a couple of minutes but then settles down and will participate. She will NOT stay with a babysitter. Fortunately my 14 year old daughter is old enough to keep her at home when it is necessary. She does perfect with my oldest daughter.

I love her so much. But sometimes it can be fustrating. I am soooo thankful my oldest will keep her sometimes.

what a little sweetie! I would try again like you said and have your DH bring her! it might give her some confidence that she can do something on her own!!
the fact that she has come so far since she came into your family says a lot of the unconditional love and support you have given her and she knows that! you are an amazing family!

So glad she is so bonded. Funny my son that came to me at 3 months is my Raddish and Avy who was left alone in the hospital for 6 1/2 months, abused when she went home for 3 months then came to us is my most bonded. Ella is really bonded too but Avy and I are connected at the hip if that make sense.

I think having your DH take her sounds like a great idea. If she is still scared then I would pull her out till she is more ready. :thumbsup2

I think having your hubby take her is a wonderful idea. Her little face made me think of my Noah. He had the same issue until he started prek. It was easier in the beginning when Hubby would drop him off than when I would. So that might work for you. He had a huge fear that I was not coming back to get him. He was with bio mom off and on for 2 and half years before he came to us. I really believe those do bond after coming into care bond fiercely stong. They have sadly seen the other side so they know what life is like without that bond and do not want to go back ...

You know I never thought of it that way but you are sooo right.
We have always said if Ella could crawl into our skin she would. She is so bonded with both DH and I. She has to have "snuggle time" with both of us before bed or she cries and cries. If one of us is not going to be here at bedtime then we need to snuggle with her before we leave or she won't go to sleep till the other one comes home. princess:

Lhea woke up in a good mood today. On the way to the bus stop Ciera was asking about today's plans and then said "oh yeah ..... Lhea you are swimming today". Well that was all it took to upset her. She clung to me, then cried, then didn't want to go to school. I litterally had to pick her up and put her on the bus then walk away real quick and leave her screaming. (we did this the whole first month of school but she does much better now .... usually). When she came home the bus driver said she only cried a couple of minutes and then was fine. Lhea seemed very upset when she got off the bus. She came in and ran to her room. I went through the other kids papers then called her down. She came down carrying her blanket and crying. I asked her what she was doing and she said she was in her bed. I had her sit beside me as I helped the other kids with homework. Then I put her on my lap and asked if she wanted to go to swim lessons. She said no. I asked her what she wanted. She wanted to stay home. Then I asked her what would make her want to go swimming and she said if I swam with her. I told her I couldn't and that Daddy is going and she cried again. I asked her what she wanted Daddy to do at the pool with her and she said she wanted him to put on his bathing suit and get in with her. I told her the parents aren't allowed in the pool but maybe he could sit at the edge and put his feet in. She perked up a bit and said Yes! With his bathing suit on! I told her we could ask daddy. Of course daddy said yes and Lhea was thrilled. The rest of the evening she was in a great mood. So my husband went to swim lessons with her and said she did great. She did make him sit at the edge with his feet in and watched him the whole time but she even participated this time. She came home happy and announcing that she didn't cry and requesting that I give her cake (did I mention that I tried to bribe her with cake? :rotfl:) And of course she got her cake. I am sooo proud of her. I just hope that next Monday when I have to take her she does ok. Daddy can't do it on Mondays. I guess I will have to wear my bathing suit and put my feet in the water.
It never occured to me that me being dressed was an issue. Hopefully it will all go better now.
Oh but my husband allowed her to stay in the lower level class because Lhea still only wanted to swim with Miss Katie. But that's fine... we are making some progress :lovestruc

That's wonderful!!! Tell Princess Lhea she is a very brave girl!!!

Hi, I'm re-joining you :wave2:. I guess I forgot to sub to your thread from the begining and completely lost you but I found you again. YAY!! LOL.

Firstly, I love Lhea's name and the story behind it. It was so touching to read it. :)

I'm so glad to hear she did much better with her second swimming lesson. :thumbsup2 Way to go Lhea!! She's do a heck of a lot better than me. I keep meaning to sign up at the Y to learn how to swim but it always falls off my list of things to do.

So glad you figured out it the the being "dressed" thing that was upsetting her. I hope she has a great time on monday too :thumbsup2

Our family was chosen as a big give family just a couple of weeks ago. I was in total shock when the doorbell rang today and the mail man was standing there holding “Mickey Mail”. We got our very first Big Give. I called all of the kids down to sit on the couch and announce that Lhea had mail. She was thrilled, but had no idea what I was talking about. She began to open it asking what it was and who it was from. It was hard for a 4 year old to understand that someone she doesn’t know has sent her a gift. AND not only did they send her a gift, they sent a gift for all 5 of the children. What a HUGE blessing!!!

Our first big give gift was from mommy2mrb. Thank you soooo much!!! The kids got handmade autograph books to take to Disney world to get all of the character’s autographs. They were beautifully decorated with each of the kids’ favorite Disney character. They were complete with ribbons and stickers. They were just perfect! There was a little card with them that was also handmade and decorated with princess Tiana stickers. Lhea has carried it around with her all evening!

Was just reading about your amazing family and hope you don't mind if I tag along for your adventure (I just subscribed!). Loved the story of the children's names....what a great story for Lhea to tell people when she is older!

I wanted to pop in and say hi! I've been following your story, but lurking a bit, I guess! ANyway, I am so excited that Lhea is getting a wish. We went on our trip last May, and it was AMAZING. I am glad that the swimming lessons seem to be going better. My oldest had pretty bad separation anxiety up until about a year ago. Finally now, she realizes that there is often more fun without mom around! :lmao:

Yah for being picked for the Big Give.

Thank you! The kids are really loving them. I had to put them up so they would have them for the trip and the little ones got mad at me. When I took the card from Lhea just for a minute to write down who it was from she cried. She is still carrying it around. and analyzing every letter on it. We have read it to her 100 times  She is very amused the Lisa starts with a L and ends with an A like her name. She has even renamed a teddy bear Lisa :)

I am anxiously waiting for her to figure out all of the fun when mom isn't around ... but I'm not sure it is in the near future. But since she is "the baby" I'm sure in a way I will miss it.

Yah for being picked for the Big Give.
