Sorry, no pictures! We did a short 3-night/4-day stay and it was all Go-Go-Go Eat-Eat-Eat the whole time! Myself, DH, 2 kids (4 and 17 months), and my parents - my Mom thought we needed the Deluxe Dining Plan, so she added it....and, no, we did not.
If we learned anything from this trip, it's that we will never need the DxDP!
Arrival Day - Friday DHS
Hollywood & Vine We started off on our arrival day with a park opening ADR at Hollywood & Vine. It was so much fun, my son had the BEST time dancing every dance party he could. Princess Sofia was very excited that she was the very first one to sign our photo mat and character book. The food was pretty good, nothing spectacular, but even my dad (who is hard to please) enjoyed the meal and said if nothing else, as long as other meals were as good as this one, then he wouldn't leave disappointed. Luckily, he did manage to find better lol.
We did arrive early to our ADR (9:00am), and we were sat right on time, maybe a few minutes later. We were a party of 6, 4 adults, 2 kids - 1 high chair needed. H&V was the only restaurant to seat us at a 4 top with 2 high chairs on either end. Definitely not enough room, as my 4 year old did NOT need a high chair. We were just going to wing it and place a regular chair at the opposite end...but the staff was very nice and apologetic and moved us to a much bigger table right away. We finished eating before we got a chance to meet Doc McStuffins (too many dance parties), so we went to the front of the restaurant to meet her on our way out. Altogether, everything took right at an hour. Much less time than I originally anticipated! We were off to a great start!! As long as one of my children are in love with Disney Jr. characters we will be making this a regular spot to eat!
Pizza Planet Lunch was a QS (though not "quick" to get through the line!) We each ordered our own pizza (big mistake), as I barely ate half of mine, and others didn't finish theirs either. We definitely know to share next time! This was the first time we realized/remembered that we each get our own dessert with every meal as well. Start. Puking. Now.
Did I mention DxDP was way too much food?! It was decent, overall, but we'll try something different next time!
Garden Grill By far, the longest wait of our ADRs. We arrived early (as we did to each meal), and we ended up waiting about 20 minutes past our ADR time. ADR was for 5:35p - I thought since this wasn't "prime time" that it would help in getting sat on time. We didn't leave the restaurant until after 7pm. This was also one of the SLOWEST meals. We ended up getting skipped by Dale, as Mickey was at our table at the same time. We saw Pluto, Mickey, AND Chip each a SECOND time, before we FINALLY had Dale come to our table. This was after informing both our waitress and the handler that we never got to see Dale.
The food was pretty good, everyone enjoyed themselves. We did request a second helping of some items, unfortunately, it took so long to receive them that by the time they reached the table, no one was really hungry for them. The 1 yr old was DONE well before the end of the meal, so my DH walked out with her. They both missed out on dessert. Two cobblers were placed on our table, only about half of one was eaten from. It was a sad thing!
We most likely will not be going back to GG again. We didn't enjoy the food enough to counteract the slow service...and DH and my Dad did NOT enjoy the spinning restaurant.
Day Two: Saturday MK
Cape May Cafe The BEST meal we had all weekend. Even my hard-to-please Dad said this was the best meal he had all weekend! The character interaction was fantastic, we saw each of them (Minnie, Goofy, Donald) twice, and the food was fabulous! This will definitely be a regular spot for us, also! Our ADR was BRIGHT AND EARLY (I was told never again HA) at 7:30am, so we were one of the first to be sat, as that is what time the restaurant opens. We arrived early to this ADR as well, so we got to scope out BC! We were all in love!
The meal took right around an hour again, early morning ADRs are fabulous! We were able to get to MK right after RD! This was the overall favorite from the family!
Pecos Bills Not much to say about this, as it's nothing special. It was decent food, I had a cheeseburger. I'd eat there again. Every time I look at a dessert I want to run away screaming.
Coral Reef: I was a little scared from the mixed reviews, but we really enjoyed our dinner! Again, we arrived early to our 5:55pm ADR and we were sat just a little early as well! That was a nice surprise! Since we were a party of 6, we could not sit up against the aquarium, as they are only 4-tops, but she said we "might" be able to sit at the round tables across from them on the first floor. I guess that request got lost in the process, as we ended up on the 2nd level. NBD, we were at least facing the aquarium in the round booths.
Everyone really enjoyed their meals, appetizers included! My Dad was wary of ordering the octopus appetizer, but he was very pleased, as it was cooked just perfect. Other apps that were ordered and devoured were the lobster soup, sriracha shrimp, and a watermelon salad. Meals were 3 of the Mahi Mahi dishes, and a salmon dish. They were delicious! We actually weren't too stuffed to have a bit of dessert this time around, but definitely NOT needed and wouldn't have ordered otherwise. The coconut mango chiffon cake was AWESOME! Actually, I WOULD order that again!!
DH had the turtle cheesecake, and my mom had the vanilla panna cotta tart, she was not a fan, although she didn't read the description all the way through and it wasn't what she thought it would be. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal at Coral Reef and would definitely return!
Day 3: Sunday AK
Tusker House Another early pre-park ADR, and it was well worth it! We arrived early to our 8:30am ADR, and we were sat pretty much on time- by the time we walked across the park, parked the stroller, had our pictures taken at the front of the park and at TH, then ended up waiting behind a large party to be sat! The juice was the best part, LOVE IT!! We really enjoyed the food and the character interaction as well. And Goofy was there! Yay!
My son enjoyed participating in the dance parade and following Daisy around the restaurant. Unfortunately, it started at the exact same time she came to our table. She signed our photo mat and book, but we never did get a chance to do pictures with her. After the dance parade, the characters left for a few minutes ...at the same time my son went to the restroom. So when Daisy came back out and stopped by our table one more time, he wasn't there!
We left the restaurant shortly after the park opened and we jumped right on the Safari with no wait! Tusker House is definitely a must-do again!
Flame Tree BBQ Definitely our favorite and best QS lunch by far! We all enjoyed the food, we all wanted to throw our desserts in the trash. We were able to get a table overlooking the water and EE, it was a very nice lunch. My son thoroughly enjoyed watching the people go screaming down EE and Splash Mtn at MK. So this and Pecos Bills were his favorite lunches!
He is truly fascinated by this - he kept asking why they were screaming, it's supposed to be fun??
Boma A very interesting and tasty dinner buffet! I didn't get a chance to try everything I wanted to, maybe next time! I'm not sure my parents were impressed with it as I was, and unfortunately my DH had to leave late that afternoon, so he missed the rest of the trip! The only thing that disappointed at Boma were the zebra domes
I had heard such great things about them, they just didn't live up to the hype for me. Maybe they weren't what I was expecting, but I just wasn't impressed and would not get them again.
In fact, none of the desserts at Boma were really impressive, or even that great, to me.
We did show up a little early for our ADR and we were sat very quickly, but we had a very early 5:15p ADR.
Departure Day: Monday DTD
'Ohana What a fun atmosphere! We really enjoyed our last character meal breakfast. My son got to hold Stitch's hand during the first dance parade, which was really exciting. And by our final day, even my 17m old daughter was finally starting to enjoy the characters - at least she didn't burst into tears screaming when Mickey got near her as she did on our first night at GG!
She even walked around the restaurant with my mom during the 2nd dance parade. Of course, my favorite was the juice (and the bread!) My mom and I were debating whether it's the same juice as TH? And can anyone tell me WHAT types of sausages they serve at 'Ohana?? My son DEVOURED them and he doesn't usually eat breakfast meats, or any meats for that matter, it's usually a struggle to get protein in him!! We all (except my Dad, bacon & eggs just isn't his thing) really enjoyed the family style breakfast. It was all really good and lots of fun! Breakfast didn't take long at all, we arrived pretty early but we were also sat a little earlier than our 10am ADR. 'Ohana is definitely on the list to do again! And we can't wait to try it for dinner next time, as well!
Raglan Road We headed to DTD before driving home. Since DH wasn't able to make the last couple of meals, we had 2 dining credits left so we decided to book an ADR the day before at Raglan Road. I was mistaken when I said Garden Grill was the slowest meal. RR took FOREVER!! Our ADR was for 1:45p and we were sat pretty much on time. Between the server not being very attentive, and the time it took the food to come out of the kitchen, we didn't leave RR until shortly after 3pm!!!! For not having any characters, and the restaurant was fairly empty for a LATE MONDAY afternoon, over an hour to dine at a "regular restaurant" was unacceptable. However, the food was pretty good, I had the fish n chips, too many chips, not enough fish, IMO! The kids devoured the mac n cheese, not really surprising! Next time I think I'll go with my first choice of Earl of Sandwich and give that a try!
Oh, and no one even ordered dessert! By the end of the meal the baby was melting down so my Dad left the restaurant with her. My mom was on the phone trying to straighten out a missed DP credit. And I had to take my son to the restroom! By the time I got out with him, the bill was paid and we were leaving. What a waste of money for the DxDDP! Wish my mom had consulted me before getting it!
Oh well, now we know for next time!!
