OK, so it's time for panic mode, as I lay awake running through my/our plans last night. :( Wife wants to hit a beach, so it looks like I forgo my desired baseball game to hit the beach the evening of 6/22. Bus trip looks long, cab ride expen$ive, so the dreaded option of renting a car has crossed my mind. Then I got to thinking (takes a bit for my Pooh brain to connect the dots), and I started thinking about seats fort the DDs 8 & 6. DD8 could possibly do w/o her booster (she's under weight, but a decent height @ ~48"). DD6 concerns me...she actually weighs more (as my shoulders can attest from tossing her around the pool recently), but goes ~46". Any options here besides hauling our boosters from oHIo? Is a cab even an option w/o a booster? We can lap out them in our laps if we take a cab (airport/beach trips), but not if I have to drive a rental car. :confused3

Personally, I would rent a car and ask them if they have boosters available to rent as well. If not, bring the boosters. It's definitely the safest option!

California law requires that all children under 8 be in a booster or car seat. Regardless of height/weight. I would check with the car rental company about a booster.

There are exemptions from the child seat law for taxis and buses but I am pretty sure in a rental, you need a booster.

I just looked into renting a car for a day in July. I was looking at a Saturday from 8am to 4pm - Dollar on Harbor. It was around $35 base price. I'm sure a booster would be under $10. That's not really bad for a day at the beach!

I know for sure that the Alamo in DTD has car seats and boosters available (for $$, of course) when you rent a car from them.

Just a heads-up...the last time we went to the beach, we paid $30 to park our car for the day!!!

^Which beach did you go to?

If you go to Corona del Mar, it's free street parking. And that beach is beautiful.

I don't know what beach we went to, but it was awful.
There was yucky seaweed all over the place, the bathrooms were filthy, the water was freezing (in May). We stayed about an hour and left.
I don't think we'll be risking going to the beach anymore.

Thanks for the input, folks. Any ideas on the best area to hit the beach? I've done some quickie searching via Google, but I am clueless on SoCal locations near DLR that I've researched. Looks like a wash b/w rental/cab/boosters/parking vs. the game for four @ $170 + transportation. @ least if I do the car rental and beach option, I might also be able to fit in a trip to Farrell's in Brea as well. Again, no idea on logistics... :(

Was this last May? We were just talking about the fact that the weather was nicer, and it was warmer, when we went for Christmas last year than when we went in the end of May last year. The weather can vary so much here in California. I feel bad when people come expecting sunny skies and get bad weather. Sure can ruin a day at the beach.
