For the past couple of years we've done one week-long trip a year with 3 day weekends peppered in as often as we can swing it.
I love our longer trips because we get to fully immerse ourselves in Disney for an entire week. Planning this trip is basically the highlight of my year.
We are headed to WDW on Sunday May 28th through Saturday June 3rd.
We booked a room at All-Star Sports for the first night so that we could book our FP at 60 days out. The remainder of our stay will be at Wyndham Bonnet Creek (our preferred resort for longer trips to the World).
After careful planning, consideration, and lots of tweaking on Touring Plans, this is how our week will play out:
Sunday 5/28 - Arrive/HS or pool
Arrive in Orlando at around noon (depending on what time we get on the road and traffic conditions driving up, but we can usually make it in 3.5 hours).
Check in to our room at A-SS and grab lunch at End Zone Food Court.
I made FP at HS for the afternoon but I will let the kids decide if they want to go to a park or just hang out at the resort/pool for the rest of the day.
Dinner will be either a QS at HS or End Zone Food Court again; unless we decide to venture out to another resort but that's doubtful.
Monday 5/29 - MK
Prepark opening ADR at BOG
1:30pm ADR at Tony's Town Square
The plan is to leave MK at around 3-4pm so we can check in at Bonnet Creek.
We will probably spend the rest of the day unpacking and getting settled in (I also placed a large grocery order which we will have to bring up to the room).
We will have some pool time in the evening before dinner/baths/bedtime.
Dinner will be in the room either I will whip something up or we will order in.
Tuesday 5/30 - AK
Breakfast in the room.
Try for Rope Drop and head straight to Pandora where we have an 8:45am FP to the Navi River Journey.
12:30 ADR at Tusker House
Early dinner at Flame Tree BBQ around 5pm
We will probably be at the park till 6ish, then its back to the resort for baths and bedtime
Wednesday 5/31 - Resort Day/AK Evening
The kids will no doubt want to jump in the pool ASAP the minute they wake up.
We will have breakfast in the room then spend the morning in the pool with a late lunch at the poolside restaurant or up in the room.
After lunch we'll try to get everyone (dh and I included) to nap so that we can do AK at night.
We have FP for Navi River Journey, the Safari at Sunset, and River of Lights.
Dinner will be at the Pandora QS or Restaurantasaurus.
Thursday 6/1 - MK
Breakfast in the room.
Rope Drop and head straight for BTMRR
12:30 ADR at Crystal Palace
Leave the park at around 5pm and head back to the resort for baths and bedtime.
Dinner will be in the room.
Friday 6/2 - Epcot
Breakfast in the room.
Rope Drop and head straight for Soarin.
12:30 ADR at Via Napoli
Leave the park at around 5pm and head back to the resort for baths and bedtime.
Dinner in the room or QS at the park if the kids get hungry earlier.
Saturday 6/3 - Check out/Epcot/Drive home
Breakfast in the room then let the kids watch cartoons while DH and I do last minute packing and double check that we aren't leaving anything.
While Dh loads the car I will dress the kids and then we will head to Epcot.
No ADR for lunch, so we will just wing it.
The plan is to stay till around 3 and then hit the road and start heading back home
*While I have dinner listed everyday, the truth is some nights we skip dinner all together if the kids are full from too many pretzels, mickey bars, popcorn, etc. or simply too tired.
Our kids are the early to bed early to rise type and we try to stick to that schedule while at Disney. This keeps tantrums and meltdowns at bay since they aren't overly tired (we've learned this lesson the hard way). We take advantage of their early wake up time and hit the parks at RD which gets us on several rides with minimal wait. By the time we're ready to leave in the early afternoon we have really done all the must-do's (with the exception of fireworks).
Getting the kids to bed at their regular bed time also gives DH and I some down time before bed. If we are lucky with the room location at WBC we sit out on the balcony with a cocktail and watch the HS fireworks, otherwise we just watch a movie or whatever is on TV. The next day all four of us wake up happy and refreshed!
As our kids get older I'm sure our touring strategy will change but what's for certain is we will continue to do Disney as much as we can afford to and we will make sure to tailor our plans for our kids maximum enjoyment!
