I got this via email today. It may have been around awhile, my regrets if so.

Sometimes only a picture can get our attention!
Her last call was from a new cell phone...
Do you see the motorcycle?

Now do you see it?

The Honda crotch rocket rider was traveling at approximately
85 mph. The VW driver was talking on a cell phone when she
pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the
motorcycle. The rider's reaction time was not sufficient
enough to avoid this accident.
The car had two passengers
and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them.
The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact
and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place.

All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were
killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at
the Motorcycle Fair by the Police and Road Safety Department..
Pass this on to car drivers or soon to be
new drivers, or new motorcycle owners
AND ESPECIALLY EVERYONE YOU KNOW WHO HAS A CELL PHONE!!!!!
A picture is worth a thousand words.

Save a life

SLOW DOWN!
Stop talking on Cell phones and Texting while trying to drive.
The life you save may be your own...or mine.

Snopes lists this as "Undertermined" but I think we can all see this is a possibility if not reality!

(I added "SLOW DOWN" as I believe the motorcyclist should not have been going 85mph.)

you can add stop eating, putting on makeup, changing the radio station, talking to your passengers...

I must be missing something here...All I see are four big green dots with what "appears" to be a face or something. They all look the same. I am confused about this... :confused3

I got this from our Safety Officer at work last week.

I printed it out, took it home and showed DD.

BTW, as tragic as it is I think this accident is as much the motorcycle driver's fault as the driver of the car. Of course he didn't have time to react...he was going 85MPG!

Refresh it. It was that way when I looked while I wasn't logged in.

@DrCavin add to that picking your nose and eating corn on the cob.

I was driving to the pre-school to either pick up or drop off. I passed a guy in a mini-van eating an ear of corn, had his finger up his nose and a cell between his ear and shoulder.

People in our area drive crouch rockets so darn fast -- up to 100 mph on some roads. I can look before I change lanes and there is nobody. By the time I go to actually change lanes, there it is. They are dangerous as heck.

Maybe it's a Mac or Safari thing. Still not showing up for me. Oh well.

I thought maybe it was some kind of optical illusion thing at first. I was thinking "NO I don't see the motorcycle!"

All I see is the green faces too...

The other day I saw a woman eating out of a tupperware container driving with her knee. I was shocked but the stupidity of it made me laugh.

ITA with this, but was afraid to say it out loud!:thumbsup2

I copied the pics from snopes. If you guys want to see them and can't you can click on the snopes link. Sorry, I was too lazy to put them on my computer and then transfer them to photobucket!

Now they are all green on my screen too! I will try to fix it , give me a minute!! Ok, how are they now?

I can see the pictures and they are pretty horrifying. No wonder all three were killed instantly. And I do agree that the motorcyclist shares the blame. At 85 mph he had no time to react. But the driver of the car was also distracted by the cell phone.

I wonder if she would still think that call was important enough to make while she was driving?

Yeah, but at the bottom it says "Originally they were presented as pictures of an exhibit at the Stockholm Motorcycle Fair, showing the aftermath of an inattentive motorcyclist hitting a slow-moving car at the astonishing speed of 155MPH"

So it might not have been the driver's fault. He/She might not have even been on a cell phone. Conflicting stories makes me question what really happened here.

When I couldn't see the pics, I googled them. Most of the reports of this incident don't include the bit about her being on a cell phone. Makes me wonder if it were added as a scare tactic.

And if you think about it, a motorcycle going that fast - you wouldn't have to see, you'd HEAR that thing.

Of course that isn't to discount the danger of distractions while driving... but man, if you're going that fast on a street that has side streets where people are pulling out, you're playing with death.

Actually this accident was not caused by a driver using a cell phone. It was originally used to show motorcyclist what could happen for driving irresponsibly. At least that is what snopes said when I got the email a month ago.

...and reading the newspaper. I almost got rear-ended at a red light once by someone with a newspaper spread out over her steering wheel, reading it with an Egg McMuffin in one hand and a cell phone in the other.

I don't really think the point should be what caused the accident. I think we should focus on paying attention while you are driving, whether it is a car, motorcycle, bike, RV, whatever. It will sure reduce the chances of something like this happening to you.

As unsafe and irritating as it is to see people driving while occupied with other things, I think the original moral of this story was to warn motorcyclists of the dangers of riding too fast. It's sad it got turned around to make the diver the one at fault.
Many times I've seen a bike like this on the interstate, the person is driving it at least 100MHP, weaving in and out of traffic. THAT is terribly unsafe as well, and it makes me mad that they are allowed to drive like that (or that they get away with it).

I would be incredibly angry if a deceased family member of mine's car was forwarded around the internet when THEY WERE HIT by another vehicle going 85mph. What if he drove through a school bus? Would he be hearing about cell phone drivers then? No. We'd hear about how terrible it is to drive so fast around corners and mowing people down. The driver of that vehicle was on the phone, but she was also stopped and pulling into a street. I think even if she wasn't on the phone she would have been killed. The officers peddling this around should be ashamed of themselves. The cell phone did NOT cause this accident.

Oprah is doing a hour long special today about cell phone use (talking and texting) and I know she has real life examples of accidents that the cause really was cell phone use. Anyone interested in seeing what can happen (or want to show others what can happen) should check into it. I know it's a huge cause of hers now so I'm going to bet you can watch the episode on her website. I've got it on my DVR and will watch it tonight.

Everyone should always pay attention while driving, and that includes eating, drinking, smoking, whatever. Cell phones do seem to be especially problematic though. I think it's because so many people think they can handle it, when they really can't (and studies show this).

In NO WAY am I condoning excessive speeding (85 mph!!) or not paying attention to your driving, but I'm not so sure I believe this story.

I had to pull up the Snopes page to see the pics. Take a look at the third one or so which shows the motorcycle's front tire on the driver's seat and the driver's-side headrest twisted out of the car. Now take a look at the carseat. There's a black and white striped pattern on that front seat. If a motorcycle actually crashed through a car containing 2 people, there would not, IMHO, be any way to get that fabric back to any semblance of white!! The blood and gore from 3 people would have been everywhere! Disgusting thought, but all three bodies would, I can only imagine, have basically exploded.

So how did the motorcycle end up in the car? Maybe it was an accident with a parked/empty car? In that instance the cycle driver could have been catapulted over the car and killed.

Hmmm, I don't know. Definitely a sobering image, nonetheless.

Slow down. Pay attention to not only your actions but learn to drive defensively!

If you look it up on google (I searched "motorcycle in car accident snopes sweden" I think) some websites have the picture or link to it of the car at the crash site. You can't see any bodies, but there is blood all over the ground (that's why I won't post the link). I'm pretty sure this was a real crash.

Most likely the accident was taken apart to remove the bodies and then reassembled right side up.
