Who: Me (43)
Sam (18)
Liz (15)
Where: Hard Rock Hotel
8:00 am (HRH)
The Hard Rock offers its own teen-friendly version of a wake up call. Sam answers the phone and, instead of greetings from Mickey, is treated to No More Mr. Nice Guy. We all think this is pretty cool, except for Liz who is a little fuzzy on exactly just who Alice Cooper is. The parks open in less than an hour so she can't waste time on learning. The girl's got some serious grooming to do.
8:20 am (HRH)
I'm ready. Sam's ready.
8:30 am (HRH)
I've had a quick muffin. Sam's eaten. Unless there's a buffet in the bathroom Liz is going to have to do without.
8:45 am (HRH)
Liz given ultimatum and finally emerges, lovely, but in a foul temper.
9:15 am (Gates of Universal Studios)
Whooo! We made it! If that Lizzie doesn't shape up we're just going to have to ditch her. We've got our rain gear, we've got our money, we've got our tickets, we've got our HRH id's we've got our driver's licenses. Um, Sam and Liz have their licenses. I've got nada but don't have time for a fully freaked out game of "Oh my God, I've lost my (insert your favorite indespensible personal item)!!!!!!!!!!!!." The gates are opening and I've got better things to do. (Even if there weren't many years of absentmindedness have blessed me with an uncanny ability to mentally push potential crises aside till a more convenient time.)
At Universal Studios everyone stampedes toward the Jimmy Neutron/Shrek area of the park. These attractrions are family fun for everyone and pretty much everyone every family was up for fun this morning. Usually we'd be right in there pushin' and shovin' and pokin' people in the eye. Not so now. After all we're members of the ultra-elite group of on-site hotel guests. After a leisurely stroll to Jimmy Neutron we flashed our HRH ids and walk right on. Is this great or what? We just loved Jimmy Neutron. It's everything that type of ride should be: funny, well written and geared to old and young alike. A big thumbs up from our group!.
On to Earthquake (closed) then Back to the Future (still very enjoyable but we prefer Jimmy), Men In Black (closed), Jaws (closed) and ET Adventure where we were able to use our FOTL to skip a 45 minute line. The lines at the Studios built a lot faster than at IOA, probably because a lot of the attractions weren't running. Some of them (Earthquake and the shows) didn't start for at least an hour and some of them (Men In Black and Jaws) were down due to technical problems. I mean come on. And, oh
goody, it's starting to rain. Universal just wasn't meant to happen this morning so we decide to call it a morning and go out to lunch.
11:00 am
Out on the promenade to City Walk and it's pouring. Liz and I hunker under our ponchos and Sam happily trudges through the puddles. One good thing though, the NASCAR Cafe recieves an unexpected boon of custom. We decide on an unplanned lunch out at Margaritaville instead. We have one of these in New Orleans already but wet, cold and disappointed I wasn't in the mood for any more surprises. After a round of nachos, burgers and a couple of beers for me we floated back to the room 'neath a black sky occasionally brightened by streaks of lightening. I guess I'll have time to look for my driver's license after all. Nuts.
Jennifer (dutifully chastened in re her too-extravagent signature. So just imagine how many trips to WDW are too many and add a couple more)
