a very scary start to Christmas day

2 years ago we bought a condo in a very quite area--we bought it for a very reasonable price compared to others in the area
the only draw back is we have the main fire sprinkler system in our basement--we did have one incedent just before we moved in
anyways its 4am on christmas morning--I come too hear voices thinking we fell asleep with the tv on--but when I came too the tv was off
I then noticed that the lights downstairs were on--its a 2 floor condo with the bedrooms upstairs--
now I panic woke my DH saying someones in the house
as I was going downstairs they call up its the fire dept!!!

turns out the unit next door a pipe in the garage broke setting off the sprinkler system which like I said the main sprinkler is in our basement so the fire dept had to get into our place to shut it off by the time I get downstairs theres 4 fire fighters and 2 more outside
right after we moved in any unit with the main system had a small box on the pillar and only the fire dept has access to it so they can get in in an emgerency if your not home
Im thinking they must have rang the bell but we didnt hear it so they let themselves in

had a very hard time getting back to sleep after all of that--at least everyone was ok just made a mess for the people next door

We had some furnace problems but ended up the unit just couldn’t keep up in this old house. It was stressful, so I know how you must be feeling. Your peace has been disturbed. Hopefully you can rest easy today.

Wow, not sure how having that system in the basement of an individual unit could meet fire code. Usually the "fire control room" is in it's own room that is clearly marked that is only accessible from the outside of the building.
