A Very Lurkyloo Christmas is FINISHED! New 3/16: Last Day of the Trip!

I was cracking up about your comment waiting for TourGuide Mike to put out his Least Crowded Parks list. I saw that the hours were out today at work (I was multitasking, I promise) and thought..well I can plan kinda what I want to do but must wait for Mike!! Because heaven forbid I book an ADR at a park that I should not be in!

:lmao: I know the feeling! Even after several years of using his recommendations, I still don't feel confident to make my own predictions.

Just a head's up about Tourguide Mike, his sister was in the hospital in critical condition. She is getting better but he has been with her. I follow him on Facebook and Twitter for his live updates. He posted this info over the weekend and I believe he is back in Orlando or going soon to update his site info.

Oh my goodness! I am so glad to hear she is getting better. I know sometimes we TGMers grumble when Mike isn't speedy with the park charts, but a situation like that really puts it all in perspective.

So I keep getting inspired to post in my PTR and then running out of steam cuz nothing's definite yet. I was stoked when Anne posted the link to December hours, and I eagerly wrote them all down, but I'm just not confident interpreting them without my beloved TGM Least Crowded Parks charts!

Now if it gets to be next Tuesday and Mike has not been able to post those yet, well, I'll get out last year's, match it with this year's hours, close my eyes, and point.

Next week is gonna be CRAZY! I get back from my dad's on Monday, then Tuesday night/Wednesday morning I have to try to make my ADRs online at 3AM! :scared1: And if it doesn't work (b/c people are still reporting that their +10 days are not opening up for them online) I gotta stay up to 4:30 AM or so making them on the phone! OK, I don't *have* to, but I'm freaked out about not getting the ones we want.

Then, Thursday morning it's off to D23 Expo for all four days! I'll be live-blogging and/or Tweeting it, and I hope to do a mini-Trippie in this thread afterward.

Whew! :faint:

Wow Patrick knows Big Bird!!!! That is impressive & you guys should really get to New York because I would sure love a trippie about getting to go to Sesame Street! :cool1:

Can't wait for the live tweets at the D23 expo. I just love living vicariously through you Carrie.

You know I need to get started on a pre-trip report for our Oct trip myself huh?:confused3

Yeah, get crackin' on that PTR, missy!! :lmao:

Patrick seems to know a lot of the Muppets. I got to meet Gonzo (Dave Goelz) at the Henson Christmas party a few years ago, and one of Swazzle's performers did Kermit on America's Got Talent last night, so maybe some day I'll meet him! :hyper:

So according to the CM quoted in this thread, they'll be extending the Wishes fireworks dessert parties at the MK through the end of the year! Now I have one more $$ special event to shoehorn into our formerly relaxing trip.... :rotfl: If we can even get into it - sounds like the extended dates thru October are selling out quickly.... :confused3

Oooooh, I would like that. I decided against making reservations for it for our trip in October since I'm on a pretty strict budget, but for the day we plan to do evening EMH in December, we have a late lunch but no dinner planned and this might solve that problem. I hope it's true!

I've read your wedding TR and instantly fell in love-well, you know, with everything you did and how you report-not fell in love with you and Patrick because that would be BEYOND creepy. And my DH now has you to blame for my plan to renew our vows in Disney and our daughter's comments to random people "my mom's getting married again in a couple of years and I get to be in the wedding!" Though she always seems to forget to tell them it's to HER DAD! But I loved your photography so much that I wanted to contact the Roots for a family (or very spoiled-in a nice way-only child) photo shoot in Disney. HOWEVER-looks like you're going to be at Disney the same time as we are so they'll be all yours. Hmmmm...wonder if they'll come to Maine.

Just wanted to say I'm not in a creepy way in love with your TRs.

Happy Planning!
Michelle

Welcome out of lurkdom! :wave2:

I love the story about your daughter - apparently kids really do say the darndest things! :lmao: I hope you are able to do the vow renewal - it would be sooooooo fun!

Re: the Roots A) they will go anywhere for a photo session, plus B) we're going to try really hard not to monopolize their time while we're in WDW cuz, well, a little Lurkyloo goes a loooong way! :teeth:

However, I have an idea - what if you just *happened* to run into us at WDW and then I hollered "Hey what's that photogenic thing over there?!!" and as they whirled around to get the shot I shoved you guys into the frame for some run-by Root family portraits! :rotfl2:

oooo...a run-by Roots photo...maybe an almost gazelle-like LEAPING Roots picutre. Not sure if DH could do a gazelle leap. I'll have to get him practicing, just in case.

Talk about a throwback, this place still has red Naugahyde booths, a neon “Cocktails” sign outside the cavernous bar, and a menu where you half expect to see canned peaches over cottage cheese and a lettuce leaf as the “diet” special.

The Smoke House is also HUGE – there were three dining rooms, plus a private room, and that bar the size of the main dining room. However, we were one of just four groups eating there that Saturday afternoon. They seated us next to a grouchy older couple who spent their entire meal complaining about people who constantly need to be on their “Palm-berries” and “peep” their every move. So I peeped about ’em!
.

:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl::laughing:

Carrie:

I got so far behind on your PTR for no good reason. I don't know how I managed to stay away so long, but I am all caught up now. Those two comments are sooooooo funny. I can vividly remember the lettuce, peaches, and cottage cheese generation. Fortunately, I was young enough that I didn't need a diet back then. LOL. And those "palm-berries". What will they think of next? "Peep-peep".

Oh...that Boston Cream pie / cake / whatever the heck it is, looks so amazing.

Your D23 tour and pictures were so entertaining. I had to wait until after work to see all the pics and it was worth the wait. Wow. :thumbsup2 What a great trip down memory lane. My DS 15 would love that tour.

Thanks for so many fab updates!

WOW!!! So I take a few weeks off of reading TRs so I'll have a lot of reading to do, and you go and take a trip to Disney Studios!! I always miss the good stuff!! You would think that would teach me a lesson to keep up with everything. :lmao: Reading about your trip makes me want to go to CA so bad!!! I've never been, and DH and I are toying with the idea of doing Disneyland next year. It's just kinda scary since neither one of us has EVER been out there. If we decide to go, I'll definately be PM'ing you all the time to get the low down on the best things to do around there.

Lurkyloo -

I just found your TR yesterday. I spent yesterday evening and today reading your reports, even hooked my oldest daughter who spent today reading your Wedding TR.

I am planning a solo trip in December, my first ever solo trip. That is unless my daughter comes through and joins me for most of it. I really enjoyed your Wedding Crasher report, you sure did fill each day.

I don't have cake to post. I am always too excited to eat my cake and never remember to take food porn pictures. Even if I did, posting pictures is not something that I have mastered yet.

I look forward to hearing more of your trip planning and maybe I will see you at DAP.

Hello, LurkyLoo. I'm another lurker exposing herself (in a decent way, I promise) :scared1:. I loved your wedding TR. I'm looking forward to hearing about Disney at Christmas. I have not been, yet, that time of year. I don't know why. I sure love Christmas, and I sure love Disney. It would be a no-brainer to be there at Christmastime. Just hasn't happened yet, though.

Hey there!

So you get to do the dessert party after all. Well then you can let us know what you really think. I think you have good judgement on things like that.

Have fun at the D23 Expo. Also good luck with the ADRs for Dec.!

Just found your pre-trip report after seeing your ADR window is about to open up . . . how exciting is this!?

Okay, now I need to pay my admission fee, but I don't know anyone that bakes awesome cakes like that . . . [starts digging around for loose change] . . .

Okay, so here's what I got:

An Apple Pie:

A Camera Cake:

We're not having a grooms cake, but if we were, this is what it would look like:

Whoops! I knew I'd forgotten something in my excitement. We're flying out on Dec. 8 and returning on Dec. 16, the day before the $$$ holiday rates kick in at the hotels!

Awesome! We'll be there from Dec 5th - 13th, and our wedding is on the evening of the 8th.

Christmas at Disney is soooo freakin' awesome! There is no better time to go. I took my son in December 2005 and again in December 2007 with my now DF. We couldn't imagine a better time or place to get hitched, so here we are!

beatlesblonde said:
But I have one complaint Miss Carrie, if you arrive at WDW on the 8th, how are you supposed to crash my wedding unless you arrive really early? I guess you'll have to crash my DP instead

lurkyloo said:
SOLD!!! What's on the menu? Peanut-butter chocolate marshmallow squares perhaps?!

Looks like my date twin already hit you up to crash her Dessert Party, so you probably wouldn't want to crash our Cali Grill dinner reception . . .

But lemme know if you want me to send some leftover cake to your resort . . .

OK, first off, I did something plan-y last week!

I joined Tour Guide Mike again. I thought I didn't need TGM anymore after 5 trips, but this whole Christmas thing has thrown me for a loop, so I wanted to read his articles on the best ways to see it all.

This is despite the fact that I have a free subscription to TouringPlans.com, which came with my May vacation package. I've poked around it, and while I love the Least Expensive Ticket Calculator, I totally can't read their Crowd-Level Calendar... it is hard for my brain to process the info in that format, and it doesn't seem detailed enough to me after a few years of Tour Guide Mike.

Also, just like the Unofficial Guide's WDW guidebook, their website's format is SO reader-unfriendly... lots of dense text, few pictures or layout tricks to make info easier on the eyes and accessible to the casual reader.

Now at first I was kinda grumbling to have to pay almost full price to re-join Tour Guide Mike (he gives repeat buyers a discount, but I only qualified for the $16.95 price, not the $9.95 price). But then I realized I was doing exactly what I always laugh about when people ask if it's "worth it" to buy my Disney Weddings & Honeymoons book for $4.95 - $7.95. That's, like, the price of a Starbucks coffee drink or two to learn everything you could ever possibly want to know about planning your WDW wedding!

So I will not begrudge Mike his $16.95. May it cover his next four trips to Starbucks.

I'm right there wit'cha . . . I absolutely ADORE TGM. I've subscribed too many times to count! His advice is always very well written and usually dead on.

And I'm sure you've seen that he DID post the Least Crowded Park charts before December BEFORE your ADR window opens - even with all the stuff going on with his sister. Man, he's dedicated!

lurkyloo said:
Also, supposedly travel agents can make ADRs starting at 12:01am ET, so they have the drop on all of us - if you can find one dedicated enough to stay up that late....

And, as you now know, it looks like WE can too! I hope it wasn't a fluke . . .

On the planning front, I've been reading up on Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party and I'm still totally on the fence. Part of me feels like we should go just because we can and we never have. But I am so not into parades, characters and stage shows, and that seems to be the only real draw besides the fireworks. Plus, it sounds like it's crazy-crowded, and I try to avoid crowds at all costs.

Cons

Not as good as MNSSHP
Not that much different from regular night in the MK
Expensive!
I'm not into parades and shows
I'm not into characters
I'm TOTALLY not into crowds
Hot chocolate prolly watery and tongue-scorching
Cookies prolly dry
May be long lines for rides
We already have snow on Main Street after every holiday fireworks show at Disneyland
Might be a good night to see Osbourne Lights/Candlelight Processional instead

I actually LOVE Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party . . . I've been twice before and had a GREAT time. Whether it's worth the extra $$$ is entirely up for debate but, for me, it's a no-brainer.

I'm totally not into the stage shows or the character things, either. So, when everybody else is checking out all that stuff, I'm usually riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion and Buzz Lightyear a bazillion times in a row with little-to-no waiting.

I do normally try to catch the fireworks show and the second parade. If you are AT ALL interested in seeing the Christmas Parade (which you may not be), you can only see it at a MVMCP until all of the parties have taken place and, after that, it's a daytime parade, not an evening parade.

IF you decide to go, I would recommend you go on an "off day", like a Sunday or a Tuesday . . .TGM does a good job of recommending when you should and should not go.

We're going one night with the wedding group (on the 6th, I think). I've actually recommended it for the folks for whom theme parks is "not their thing", but who want to check out the Magic Kingdom just once while they're there. It's cheaper than a 1-day 1-park ticket (But, assuming you're an Annual Passholder, that really wouldn't be a big selling point for you)

lurkyloo said:
OK, I am waaaaaaaay too excited about this, but I just discovered, like, last week that the DIS holds these amazing private parties every year around MouseFest time, and this year's is right during our trip to WDW.

Well, today they announced what this year's party is, and luckily for latecomers like me, it's a redux of last year's PRIVATE PARTY AT PIXAR PLACE!!!

It's after DHS closes and we get to ride Toy Story Mania as many times as we want and there will be carnival/street fair food and Woody will be there and also Sarge is leading us in from the front gate - WHEW!

And it's only 25 bucks! And there's no limit on how many people can attend! And this year they're letting us bring cameras!

So, I say if you're going to be in WDW on Dec. 12, we should all meet at the DIS party!

No park admission necessary!

When you host before- or after-hours events, they don't make your guests pay to get in.

So that means you can go, right?!

They said last year's started around 9:30 (park closed at 8pm) and went til midnight or 1am.

Rock ON! This'll be the night before we leave, but our flight's in the afternoon on Sunday, so we're totally going to try to get on the list for this one!

lurkyloo said:
Candlelight Processional at Epcot is turning into another MVMCP for me - super expensive and something I'm not even sure is worth it. I feel like we should go and we should do the dinner package so we don't have to wait in line for 2 hours, but they're changing everything up this year and it's getting even more hard to decide.

This is one where I don't know if the dinner package is worth the expense, but totally your call of course. If I can remember correctly, they try to get you to dine at wierd times (like dinner at 3:30 PM). I went in 2005 using the CP Dinner Package for LeCellier (which, at the time, was one DDP credit - so a total bargain). The show is very lovely, but you can totally see it and hear it from outside the theater. We had an awesome time in 2007 when, on Christmas evening, we decided to run over to the World Showcase and hang out for a bit. We staked out an IllumiNations viewing spot to the right of the America Gardens Theater while the last CP of the evening was going on. (Gary Sinise was narrating) We grabbed some chicken tenders and fries from the place inside American Adventure and ate our food on a tray on top of a World Showcase trashcan. We had the camera set up on a Gorillapod and got some GREAT photos of IllumiNations!

Ooo! I MAY want to check this out. But after the MVMCP, and our wedding reception at the Cali Grill, and a dinner at Narcoosee's at fireworks time, we may have "Wishes! overkill" if we try to cram in one of those dessert parties . . . there's only so much Jiminy Cricket one can stand during a 9-day timeframe . . .

So, anyway, look forward to seeing how your plans evolve. Best of luck with the ADR making! And, who knows? We may bump into each other at some point in December!

I so hope you go to the MK dessert party! I would love to hear about it. I was thinking about it for our last trip but our only MK night was also the night I had an 8:15 p.m. reservation at Ohana's so no dessert party as I knew we'd be rolling out (literally) of the Poly (of course, then at 1:30 a.m. when we were still at MK I was so ready for a dessert party! :rolleyes1)

Oh, by the way, because I'm a complete dork and LOVE the People Mover (a.k.a. the TTA) I did a search for the refurbished version on YouTube and you should see there new LED lights! So cool!

 wow Andrea...good post!

I made my ADR's sunday morning....and I was done with all of them before 6am....so....:confused3 don't know if it was a glitch or what...but i started them at 535am when i woke up...took me 10 minutes to get eveything i wanted....at the proper times too! :thumbsup2

Oh I'm so glad you enjoyed them and got to see the pictures and everything! Just wait til you see our D23 Expo trippie! (Hmmm... maybe I'm setting myself up there... :scratchin)

I was so hoping that this was going to happen! I really hope it's true! I am making room in my dining schedule for it. Do we know when it might be definite??

Wait! Did the Dessert party get extended again? :confused3

So far it's a rumor reported by someone who spoke to a CM who was the manager (dunno if she's the overall manager or was just the manager of that specific party) and was told they're going to extend the dates. You gotta figure they're making wads of cash on it the way it sells out all the time, so I think the rumor will turn out to be true - I just don't know when they're gonna confirm it. However, I will definitely post here when I find out!

Oh you should do it! Don't be scared! :teeth: I can send you my typed-up, patented "Disneyland for First-timers" tips. The cool thing is you don't need as many days to do Disney, so you can combine it with trips to San Diego, some of our other theme parks, or just to see LA!

Lurkyloo -

Hi! :wave2:

Don't worry about need a cake to post - I'm not sure where that got started, and besides, ACWinsett appears to have paid the "admission fee" for about five people! :rotfl2: How cool that you get to do a solo trip! I do hope our paths cross at Disapalooza, so I can hear all about how much fun you're having! :goodvibes

Hello, LurkyLoo. I'm another lurker exposing herself (in a decent way, I promise) I loved your wedding TR. I'm looking forward to hearing about Disney at Christmas. I have not been, yet, that time of year. I don't know why. I sure love Christmas, and I sure love Disney. It would be a no-brainer to be there at Christmastime. Just hasn't happened yet, though.

Welcome! You know, with all the trips we've jammed into the last few years, I never really even considered going at Christmas until recently. For one thing, it seems to be a whole other ball of wax than a regular WDW trip and takes a different kind of planning. So I can understand why you might not have made the trip yet. I just hope my bellyaching about how hard it is to plan doesn't put you off the idea! :lmao:

Hey there!

So you get to do the dessert party after all. Well then you can let us know what you really think. I think you have good judgement on things like that.

WOWZA! :hyper: I said it before, but I think you just paid several people's "admission fees" (and, for the record, no one need feel shy about posting if they don't have a cake picture. :goodvibes) They're all great, but that camera cake is amazing! I did a double take.

Awesome! We'll be there from Dec 5th - 13th, and our wedding is on the evening of the 8th.
