In the real world, what kind of hotel does the value resorts compare too, room mostly. A comfort inn? days inn or ???
Thanks... recently had a bad experience (non mouse) and am trying to make a decision about next year's trip (s?)... where to stay-- have stayed at POR and WL x2
thanks Jill

Days Inn sounds about right.

(that being said, we liked Pop A LOT more than POR, and we are deluxe people all the way :thumbsup2 )

We love Pop, better than any ordinary hotel in my opinion. Other non-Disney hotesl have this sterile feeling, not Pop. With all the great icons and fun all around you can't compare it to a plain hotel room.

apples and oranges. the closest comparison that can be made is to a mod. theyre just smaller than the mod.

I agree, I can't compare them to non-Disney... The Days Inn I have been to have all had damage in some sort, peeling wallpaper, waterstains, etc... same for the others. I guess I have been lucky not to have found that at ASMu, though maybe some rooms have those problems. I only stayed in 2. That said, since they are themed nicely, and the others were more sterile, I just cant compare...

To be honest, size-wise a Days Inn sounds right. But it's Disney! You have a Disney bedspread and Disney wall art. Have you ever seen a well kept Days Inn with Disney wall art? Not to mention the soap and shampoo. I'd rather stay in a value on WDW property than the Hilton off property... :goodvibes

Yes I would agree you really can't compare the standards of Disney with off site hotels. It is just simply hard to find another hotel that has the cleanliness and theming that Disney has even for a value. I'm like Kaffinito give me a Disney value verses a Hilton off property because you just don't know what your going to get!!!!

No not a super 8. I would say its hard to compare.
Room is similar to maybe a Holiday Inn, but a bit smaller, but amenities can't be compared. I have never been to a days inn, super 8, or holiday inn with a cool food court, themed pools, amazing arcade, huge gift shop....

I think people tend to forget that just beacuse they called 'value' does not mean they are like a motel 6. They are still $100+ rack rate hotels, which is what you would pay at a 3* hotel elsewhere.

If by comparison you mean room size... then maybe a Holiday Inn or Days Inn. But in no means can you compare what you get for basically the same price you would pay for a Holiday Inn... Free bus service(or if you have your own car.. free parking at the parks), usually more than one pool, game room and counter service. There is such value in Disney's Value that I think we all forget how much more we do get. :goodvibes

I agree with above posters in saying there is just no comparing Disney to non-Disney. Disney resorts are built with magic!

Pretty tough to compare, but I would say either Super 8 or the good old Motel 6. (NOTE: I've stayed in some good Days Inns, and some bad Days Inns, so I can't say that is a comparison I can make.)

I would never compare a Disney value resort to a Super 8 or Days Inn. :confused3

I agree but for the EXACT opposite reason.

Disney delivers LESS in most areas then off site.

For the price of a Disney "value" on my next stay I am staying at the Marriott Courtyard. But I think a Disney "value" compares to the Fairfield Inn or a Hampton Inn. It's better then the Super8 and most Days Inns anymore LOL! Of course they are a lot cheaper too!

So a comparison between the Fairfield Inn Marriott Village and a Disney Value.

Interior Corridors - Disney No Fairfield Yes
Free Frige - Disney No Fairfield Yes
Free Microwave. Disney NA Fairfield Yes
Free Breakfast Disney No Fairfield Yes (Note; I don't count "Free dining" LOL)
Free Internet Disney No Fairfield Yes
Pay per view movies Disney No Fairfield Yes
Selection of TV networks Disney - It better be owned by Disney. Fairfield, Many more
Transportation to the parks. Both offer it, Disney's is better
Free Transport from the airport Disney Yes Fairfield No

Based on my expereince at both

Room cleanliness - Tie
Room Size. Fairfield was much larger
Price, Fairfield was either cheaper or equal every time I looked. (That is not a gurantee)
Theme Disney wins, no contest
Food Court. Fairfield had a Pizza Hut and some other things. Prices were better then Disney. Not really a comparable however.
Front Desk - Tie. Both were nice, but Marriott gets an edge because THEIR room key doesn't demagnetize if it gets near another credit card or a phone!:lmao:
Cleanning. I have had fine rooms in both.

While I like Disney I always remember You are paying a PREMIUM for location and "theme" IMHO Disney has priced themselves out on the Deluxes and is in dangerous terrority on the others.

For my October weekend trip my options were

CBR $150 or so a night
All Stars $99 a night
Marriott Courtyard Lake Buena Vista, Two room suite with Kitchen $79 first night, $89 thereafter.
Marriott Vacation Club Suite $110 a night

Hmm......

I went with the Courtyard. For the savings, I can buy "things" to theme my room if I really wanted!

Yep exactly you just can't get the theming anywhere else, which is why we usually stay onsite if at all possible. Also with Disney they are well known for their customer service and so I feel pretty confident that if there is a problem it will typically get resolved compared to other hotels that just don't really care! You just can't beat the "DISNEY STANDARD!" :thumbsup2

Just to add to the discussion and especially to what CarolA said about comparing the values to a Fairfield Inn, at another chain I can accumulate points, rewards and - sometimes most importantly - recognition as a return guest. :goodvibes

Disney does not reward or recognize its return guests, nor do they tend to give extra credence to their complaints. This is a frustration for me. :headache:

My gold-level Marriott card means that this past year my husband or the two of us have spent 50+ nights in their properties. We are the key to their business, and even if it's all mental when they thank us for returning, it makes a difference.

In the past, Disney service has needed no incentive to return. I'm not so sure that's true anymore, though... especially for folks staying in Deluxe properties.
