never, ever try bathing one on your bathtub!
We recently adopted Bernice. She is 3 yrs old and has a lot of fears due to abuse by her original owners. But we've had her since the end of May and she has done quite well.
This morning we noticed that she has a lot of 'hot spots' she's been chewing at. Upon closer inspection we discovered FLEAS!!!!!!!!!! ARGH! I thought we had gotten done with that !
So since we have two other dogs we figured we will just give them all baths with this flea shampoo that has worked very well in the past. The initial idea was to do it outside. Well it started raining so we figured what the heck we'll do it inside.
No, bad idea!
The boxer did fine, she loves baths.
The cocker was a little feisty, peed on herself (typical) but got done fairly quickly.
Bernice..oh my LORD, between DH and I it took a lot of manuevering just to get her in the BATHROOM. Then into the tub. Then she hated the water, she hated the soap and did her best to get out. At one point DH had to come in and stand behind me to catch her if she tried to bolt again.
But finally we got her done and now we are both soaked, in bathwater and sweat!
She is now sound asleep snoring in our room. But she is flea free and the shampoo kills any eggs as well.
This was a precursor to us having to give our 3 DSs baths tonight...
I don't need to workout tonight! I just finished wrestling a 92 lb wet dog!!

Wow, nice tip but some dogs do love baths. I think it's great she has no fleas! I have two dogs, one of the dogs whos a Shotz sho (sp?) hates baths but instead of trying to get out she just sits their and when i try to wash her feet she puts both paws on my arm and has those eyes that says "Can I please get out mommy?" At least she dosen't try to wreastle her way out. She couldn't anyway shes only nine pounds.

Good tip though :) No workout tonight like you said

thanks for sharing! you just brought memories flooding back of the st. bernard my brother adopted probably 30 year ago.

'daisy' was a lover but also a terrible coward. hated getting bathed-and db and his wife lived in a small place with no tub only a shower. so it took both of them getting into the shower with her to insanely messy results.

you remember the old disney movie 'the ugly datschund'? daisy was like the great dane in that movie-convinced she was smaller than she was. always trying to crawl under tables and upending them, trying to crawl into your lap to be held...the funniest moments would happen when something scared her in the middle of the night and she'd do a breakneck gallop to the bedroom-howling and baying all the way, finishing up with a big leap onto the bed trying to cuddle between db and dsil. they had a waterbed and the force of daisy jumping on cause massive waves that sent them flying off the bed :teeth:

db finaly realized their place was way too small for her and gave her to a friend who lived on a nice peice of property in lake tahoe. she def. was a memorable member of the family.

you might want to enjoy the fact yours is not overly fond of baths-can you imagine if she loved them and decided to jump in the tub with the boys? :rotfl:

Unfortunately I think the boys would love that!! They usually try to entice one of the dogs to join them, fortunately only the Boxer has warmed up to the idea but was prevented by DH.

Our Boxer will do just about anything those kids ask her to do!

That sounds like my golden! She hates baths with a passion. I've given her a couple recently that went well but the last one (last week) did not. It took my dd and I both holding her down to keep her in the tub. We were all soaked, along with a few towels before our ordeal ended, lol.
