This is just a memory of a particular incident, not an entire trip report. This was in 1999 and my son was age 14. The family decided to ride spaceship earth. My husband rode with my daughter, age 12. My son and I rode together. We made it through the majority of the ride just fine. As we were coming back down, in the backwards position, the ride stopped. The friendly voice told us that they were experiencing some difficulties and the ride would resume momentarily. So we lay back, looking up at the ceiling, and it was dark and cool and very relaxing. I noticed a foul smell suddenly. Now-the big golf ball has some interesting smells but not like this one. I looked over at my son who started to giggle. OHHHHH. Ok. A minute later, were still trapped in the ball, and the CM intercom says the ride will resume momentarily and my son says, Mom, I have to go to the bathroom, NOW. Of course I say Im sorry but that isnt possible at the moment. His face turned pale and you could tell he was not feeling well. He kept telling me he had to go NOW and I kept laughing and telling him there was absolutely nothing I could do for him. (I was laughing pretty hard by now, I know he was embarrassed and worried but still
) He looked over at the winding staircase along the wall of the golf ball and asked if there was some way we could climb out of the ride seat and get out of the ball. I told him that if his only alternative was to mess up his pants, then thats what he would have to do, and we would discretely leave the park and go to the hotel (can you imagine that bus ride?) and then go back to the park. He did not want to do that though. I cant blame him but you can only control your bodily functions for so long and then something has to give. Well the ride started up, Im sure much to the relief of our fellow passengers, and we made it off. We met up with DH and DD and DS was a streak of lightning heading for the restroom. Everything turned out ok in the end. Too much traveling, not enough sleep, and all that good food can have adverse affects on a kid, or an adult. It is one of my most vivid memories, and I thought it was funny, DS did too, well after the fact. I just thought of this memory because DS called and told me has the flu, and asked if he was still on my health insurance (19 years old) so he could go to the doctor. Poor guy.
