Well folks, after many many years of wishful thinking and imaginary trip planning, my wonderful husband gave me the go ahead to plan a Disney trip. This actually came about because I picked up a Panama Canal cruise brochure and made longing noises about what a wonderful 25th anniversary trip that would be. I also grabbed all the Disney brochures I saw, because, well... that's just what I DO.

The brochures sat there on the table while I did the math on the Canal. That's pretty pricy stuff there! A couple days later my husband wanders past, perusing the Disney brochures, looks over the top of it and says to me, "Why don't you come up with a cost breakdown at Disney for me?"

Where is my husband and what have you done with him?? Woohoo! We're going to DISNEY!! I should have tried this strategy years ago! :cool1:

So here's where we're at. Thinking about travelling to the world in early Oct, staying at Coronado Springs. My husband isn't the 12 year old at heart that I am so I want him to have a relatively peaceful resort to unwind in. And it's 'our' anniversary trip... I want him to have fun too! So there ya go... I am totally open to suggestions and advice for a Canadian traveller in the fall, who hasn't been to Disney since 1981 (Epcot was still under construction) and taking along a man who doesn't 'get' it, but wants to make his wife happy

how long are you staying?

if 5 days or less (Sun thru Thurs (leaving fri))- then I would consider getting a reservation from a DVC member and staying at BWV or BCV - these 2 resorts are between Epcot and Studios you can walk (or boat) to these parks.

if more than 5 days - stay with CSR.

it not a deluxe resort - but it has lots of things that a deluxe resort does - have you seem Mario website on it

Yes, staying a week, the dates aren't set in stone as I'm trying to figure out the best way/time to get a deal on airfare this far in advance. By plugging in sample dates I've discovered it seems to be a bit cheaper to fly out on a wednesday or thursday.

Thanks for the link :) I had already discovered that one last night and it confirms it's a good choice for us.

Hi Marion! DH and I are going to WDW in October for our anniversary, too! Of course, we're 20 years behind you...only celebrating #5 for us...but hey! Happy Anniversary to all of us, right?!?

We honeymooned in Banff and we simply LOVE Canada. I'm headed to Ottawa in Late September/early October for business, and then the following week, we head to WDW (10/11 - 16). Since we honeymooned in Canada, we're celebrating our anniversary (the 12th) at Le Cellier in "Canada" in Epcot. Not the same as the Banff Mountain Lodge, but it'll do! :)

My DH doesn't "get it" either. He's never been and is somewhat jaded...thinking it's all commercial and happy and overrun with kids. And it is...somewhat...but it's also so magical and I hope he realizes that. I don't know about CTV, but here in the States, the History Channel is running "Modern Marvels - Walt Disney World" this Saturday at 5 PM. Maybe some sort of insider's look at WDW might be something your DH is interested in, provided you get the same programming.

Also, the Travel Channel will have two WDW shows on 2/22 at 5 PM (Animal Kingdom) and 6 PM (all four parks) that you might want to watch with him.

Just thought I'd share the info.

And hey...if your dates overlap with ours, let me know!

Beth :cutie:

Hi! Do you need to stay at a moderate resort, budget-wise? Our favorite, as 2 adults traveling without kids, is POFQ. We like that the resort is relatively small, so we can walk to the bus stop easily from our room. We also like the long, romantic evening walks. It fits our quieter, laid-back style.

If you can do deluxe, I'd suggest it, as those are usually less child-populated. The most adult-oriented seem to be the Boardwalk Inn, Yacht Club, and Grand Floridian. The Swan & Dolphin are also very nice, very affordable, and have those lovely beds.

Cheers!

Every October we travel down from Alberta to celebrate our anniversary at WDW. From what you've said I think Coronado Springs is an excellent choice. We stayed there last year and were impressed with how much quieter it was than some of the other resorts we went to for dinners, including a few of the deluxe resorts.

One thing I would recommend is to be sure to pick up the 'Happy Anniversary' buttons from the concierge desk at the resort. You'll find that by wearing them you get little extras here and there that really make the trip special. Who knows, wandering around the parks you may run into us wearing ours!

If the dates aren't set in stone, Disney has been doing free dining Aug.5 - Sept. 29. for the last few years. From what I've been reading, free dining is wonderful and Sept. is a great time to go to the parks because of the low crowds. Last year they announced the free dining around April 1. To get the free dining you have to stay on site and get MYW tickets.

Does your husband like to try new foods & does he like wine? If so, then plan at least a couple of days in EPCOT because you will be there during the F&WF. I went for the first time last year and loved it!

My DH and I spent our honeymoon at CSR this past December and we LOVED it!! We found it to be very quiet and service was fabulous. Despite the abundance of bad reviews of Pepper Market, it was absolutely our favorite CS resturant. We always had great service and amazing food. And we ate there so often I think we tried just about every station! You won't be disappointed with CSR!!!

I loved CSR, but for roughly the same price, with all the great discounts available, you can stay at the Swan / Dolphin. My DH loves it there. It's part of what converted him from a reluctant WDW visitor to a Yearly WDW visitor. Just something to consider.

Other things that helped convert DH were the Food & Wine Fest, which you will be lucky enough to be there for. What DH likes to do is to have a nice breakfast, stroll a bit & then do the Festival for lunch, stroll some more, take a break & then go out for a nice meal.

Other things DH loves to do in WDW - sleep in a bit. Read the paper & have coffee on the balcony. Richard Petty Driving Experience, rent water-mice, Segway Tours & other Tours, but Segways are his favorite.

I have to tell you & this might be tough for you since you haven't been in so long & want to do it all - The biggest Key for me in converting DH to a WDW Lover was to let him Pick the Pace. My DH works his butt off at home, he has very little relaxation time, he's lucky if he gets one day on a weekend that isn't filled with things that must be done. It was so hard for me to get that he wanted to go to WDW & do nothing if he felt like it. That he would be happy just wandering aimlessly & indulging in nice meals, good drinks, quiet times.... If you can find a way to balance your time out so that he gets some really great relaxing time in, he may come around to WDW. Our days only include maybe 6-8 hours of Park time. The rest is dining, lounging, cuddling, strolling, relaxing.
