I received a phone call yesterday and I can't think of much else. The back story is... I live next door to a building that has a couple of businesses and a few apartments. A man that lived in one of the apartments was klled in a car accident two weeks ago. He was kind of different (don't want to speak ill of someone who has passed on). He never bothered me personally, but the people that are doing construction on my house were often irritated by him.

Anyhow the man that owns the building called me yesterday. He was at the property yesterday and was speaking to one of the business owners, who told him about what had been going on. Which again was not that big of a deal, especially since the poor guy is gone.

The guy that owns the building has already had someone move into the apartment. He called me to say we didn't have to worry about the "weirdo" any more. I was actually speechless when he said this, but he wasn't done. He went on to tell me that the man that moved in was a great guy that he would trust around his own children. Then he said the thing that left me completely dumbfounded. "I am much more protective of my children than you are of yours because my wife home schools." That is a direct quote. Is that just one of the nastiest things a person can say. The only thing I could think to say back was I am very protective of my children.

Anyhow, sorry for such a long vent, but I just had to get that out.

Jerk!

It sounds as if he is teaching his children intolerance at his homeschool.

I think you were better off with the "wierdo".

People like that tick me off.

Oh my! That guy is a jerk. I would tell you to not let him make you mad, but I know that's impossible.

And on behalf of the "normal" people who are in favor of homeschooling, we don't think any less of parents who choose not to. I do intend to homeschool my children, but it's not because I think that other parents don't care as much about their children. That guy is a bird brain.

OK, I homeschooled my kids and now they're in school. So I guess I'm not protective of them anymore.

I would have come back with "Oh no sir, I care about my children much more than you, I do home surgery on them instead of trusting a trained profesional"

I believe I would have said, "Sir, I find that statement to be extremely weird". And then waited to see if he could connect the dots.

That is terrible!

Personally I have had it with " Radicals" you know the people who are so adament about what THEY do that everyone else is a lesser person/parent/wife if they do it differently!

Im sorry you had to go through that!

Thank you so much for that,it is exactly how I feel. I have no problem with the way other people raise their children (as long as there is no violence). I guess some opinions should just be kept to one's self.

Thank you all for the encouragemnet and the good laugh.

My first reaction would have been WTH are you talking about?
But the sarcastic side of me loves Alex's response.

sorry, i'm speechless.

Do you think that perhaps he meant that his children were home all day where yours are not? This would put them in more danger since they were around "the weirdo" more often. Maybe he didn't really mean more protective but protective more often. I'm just assuming that your kids go to school during the day. It could have just been a poor choice of words. Since your children were at school during the day, you would only need to be concerned about the weirdo when they came home, where he needed to be concerned about the weirdo all the time.

His comment, I think, was meant to be quantitative, not qualitative, the way you have interpreted it.

I don't believe I interpreted him wrong. A part of the conversation that I left out was something that he said about the man that died. He said if a person doesn't act right then God has the right to take their life. Like I said before the guy never did anything to me personally, and I am hopeful that he is in a better place. I think the building owner is just a very judgemental person. Now,I also have to say that I have caller ID and next time I won't answer the phone.

That was very stupid, insensitive and just ridiculous for him to say that to you, I'm sorry he insulted you like that. And furthermore, i can't believe that he said if a person acted weird God had the right to take away his life. I am appalled! And speechless!

Yeah, it sounds like those kids would be much better off with some "outside influence". What an idiot!!
