We have our ADR's all set for our upcoming trip. However, I keep coming back to the San Angel Inn, which we weren't planning on seeing. DH isn't really into anything spicy or with peppers of any kind. However, I LOVE the atmosphere in there and have always wanted to eat there.

I am thinking of booking a lunchtime reservation and then having each of us order either and appetizer or dessert, since we'll be paying OOP (and having lots of food on the regular dining plan). Kind of a snack-lunch.

Is not ordering entrees frowned upon? We wouldn't be there for very long. Also, is there anything on the menu that you would recommend for this? I know SAI gets mixed reviews, so if it's a total waste of time, I'll just be content to stand in the market area once again. :goodvibes

Sounds like a great idea! Go and enjoy....! It is a lovely restaurant and what you propose is just fine. Not frowned upon at all. Hope you enjoy yourself and then come back and report what you thought! :thumbsup2

Neither mine or my husbands dish was spicy at all.....and we loved our meal there! :thumbsup2

It is not frowned upon to order anything. I have went to the Brown Derby (a signature) and just ordered dessert with water. And I was treated as good as anyone in the place.

If it is something you wish to do, do it. Don't worry about others reviews. And if DH just wants dessert or a drink while you enjoy some sort of food, do that.

Enjoy, after all it is your vacation!!

My wife and I ate at SAI despite the poor reviews we had read, and we most certainly do not regret having done so!

I am from Texas, and so spicy food and I have always gotten along. However, my DW is from Indiana, and her palate is very much unaccustomed to hot food. Both us ate there and were quite pleasantly surprised!

And we sat at a table right next to the water, and yes, it was every bit as romantic and enjoyable as we had hoped it would be!

My husband and I are eating at this restaurant in September for the first time. We like to add at least one new restaurant every visit. Looked at the menu and not sure how we will like it but are willing to give it a try. I did read in Disney's Unofficial Guide today that they recommend going just for the appetizers. We plan on eating a full meal but this is a suggestion. They look like there is wonderful appetizers. I think you should give it a try and enjoy the experience. I'm hoping to get a table by the water!

We liked our meal there, and are looking forward to going there again in Oct. The margaritas are out of this world:love:

We went in Early Feb with DD (turning 4) and DS (10 months) .. the food and drinks were great! Actually I was not that hungry so I just had an app and a drink for dinner while DH and DD had full meals. DD didn't like hers as much - but she was being a little picky (I don't like corn in my rice! etc) and I think she just wanted more chips anyways... :)
With small kids we were seated middle back- next to some other families which was just fine. It was nice and cool in there and very pretty. DH and I had always wanted to try it and so we did! Go for it! Disney does such a great job with the food for the kids that I always say that the adults should pick at least one restaurant that they want to go to... its our vacation too!
Have a great time!
