A tale of Magic Express, lost luggage and paranoia

My point is, think about what you will really need for a warm weather vacation. You spend a lot of time wearing bathing suits, with maybe a cover up. That does not take a lot of space. Lightweight tops and dresses don’t take up a lot of space. I’ve definitely been able to pack what I’m going to wear for each day of a cruise in a carry on. And no, that does not involve wearing smelly or dirty clothes.

That’s great for you but not everyone’s packing needs are the same. I always check a bag because of the stupid liquids rule. The one time I tried carry on only (a non Disney trip) was an exercise in stress and frustration, because my hair products alone filled up half of the bag—hotel shampoo and conditioner ain’t it for natural Black hair, lol. Then when I bought souvenirs (a minimum, because I knew I didn’t have space, which was another buzzkill) I was stressed out trying to rearrange everything to fit and play bag Tetris. It was the whole opposite of fun and I refuse to do it again for my own sanity.

I also don’t pay to check bags on a couple of my favorite airlines due to credit card perks, so there’s really no reason to take on that extra stress. I check a bag and call it a day.

Yeah, if you can’t make the 100ml liquids in baggie work, you will have to check it in. We have the DL Skymiles card and we get free bags too. It’s not about paying for the checked bag. It’s that I have had bags delayed, and once that happens to you, you don’t want that happening again. Like I mentioned earlier, it doesn’t always work out. We check bags when we go to cold places and skiing.

I've been using DME several times a year since it started. I have had luggage issues just twice. And both times the issue was at the resort level. First time, I had changed my resort, kept the same number and had been told not to cross off anything, the computer would show the correct resort. It didn't. Bags sat at Pop for six hours, despite four calls to luggage assistance. Second time was at ASMusic. I didn't have my bag after about 8 hours, had arrived really early. I called luggage assistance, they said the bag had been delivered, was I sure it wasn't there. Ah no, it's not. They were confused, said they would check into it. Another 2 hours go by, I call again. A nice gentleman knocked on my door. He asked if my bag as soft sided and red. Yes. He told me to hold on a minute, stepped next door, opened the door, and lo and behold there was my bag, just sitting there. He said whoever delivered the bag hadn't scanned something correctly. And off he went. I had to wonder how he knew what my bag looked like if he hadn't been the one to deliver it.
But, generally speaking, I trust DME with my bags.

Probably because he checked next door before knocking on yours.
