A sweet, happy story I just had to share on this chilly Friday...
Yesterday, when Chris and I were leaving work we got on the orange line. We sat in a car with two small boys in it; separate families. One boy and his mother were seated next to us. The other was across from us with his mother. If I had to guess I'd say both boys were about 2, maybe 3.
The boy (boy #1) seated next to us opened up a bag of some sort of snack chips. The boy across from us (boy #2) saw the chips and his eyes widened and he turned to his mother and said "chips" excitedly. It was pretty clear, that, as toddlers do, boy #2 wished he had some snacks as well.
A few minutes go by and boy #1 sees boy #2 looking longingly at the chips. Suddenly he whispers something to his mom, who nods. Then he (boy #1) walks across the train and holds up the bag of chips to boy #2 and offers him some.
It was adorable as boy #2 took some chips. Everyone in the car went "awwwwwww". When boy #2 finished his chips, he very cutely held out his little hand as if to ask for more. (Hey - he's only a toddler!) Again, "awwwww's" all around.
The two boys shared the chips for the rest of the ride.
What made this story even sweeter is that boy #1 did not speak English very well. Boy #2 did. It didn't matter, all of their communication was done without words, except for the "Thank you" boy #2 said and the "You're Welcome" boy #1's mother helped him with.
With all the bad stuff going on in the world, and all the horrible news you see every day, it was just one of those moments where you wish the world was run by 2 year olds.
