We are moving from Massachusetts to Miami the end of July and thought that perhaps we would drive up to Disney for Thanksgiving. Well there are no studios available at any of the 4 DVC resorts for Nov 27 - Dec 1. Guess we were dreaming that there would be.

Just thought we would share it with anyone else thinking of Thanksgiving at Disney

Were you able to get on a waiting list? Right now I'm on a waiting list for a studio at BWV for the weekend before Thanksgiving. When I called 2 days ago, they did have a few openings early Thanksgiving week.

I just got a studio for Nov 30 and Dec 1, yesterday, for the VWL. (sorry) When I called, MS told me that the Dec 1 studio was the only one available, and that they had studios at the other DVC resorts (I think) for Nov 30. I immediately took the Dec 1 studio and asked to be waitlisted for Nov 30 at VWL (I figured I'd just spend another night at my parents house and have the one DVC night for MVMCP before my flight back on Dec 2). HOWEVER, through the Magic of Disney, MS asked if I would hold while she made a phone call, and voila -- two nights at VWL!

It's just the continuation of the wonderfull DVC experience I've been having! On Monday I called, after realizing over the weekend that I need not pay cash for a room on NYE, before I check-in for my seven night complimentary stay at the Polynesian on Jan 1 (BCV puchase incentive). Disney doesn't discount any rooms for NYE, so I concluded I should just use points for a room at one of the moderates (I was going to pay $138 for ASMu). The cash price for a moderate on NYE is about $245, with DVC it is 24 points -- slightly exceeding the $10 per point "value". While I was on the phone with MS, I was reminded that if I cancel, the returned points canNOT be used for any DVC resort. So, on a longshot, MS checked if there were any studios available. They had one at BWV! I love DVC! So DH and I can spend spend NYE at MGM/Epcot/Boardwalk and still get at least six hours of sleep before they kick our party-weary bodies out of the room! My DH and I are now debating about when we should have my parents "return" our kids to us for our Polynesian stay! LOL (I'll be flying them down for a seven(?) day stay with their grandparents on Christmas Day.)

Did I mention I love DVC?!?

Get on the waitlist. I had 3 studio's for the week and was on the waitlist for wednesday and thursday ( Thanksgiving) for 2 of those studio's, within 2 weeks the confirmations were received and we were good for BCV for the full week for all 3.
I am now wait listed for a 2 bedroom, with the sales they are having and as more rooms become available I expect to have the 2 bedroom soon and be able to release the 2 studio's.
good luck, hope you get one of them.
Ain't this fun !

I am so glad someone posted about wanting to book a Thanksgiving trip and nothing being available - I thought I was the only one! We'll be at Hilton Head for Thanksgiving week and I kept thinking how wonderful it would be to pop down to the World for a few days. Of course nothing is available for Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving and Thursday which is Thanksgiving Day, so I waitlisted for Tuesday-Thursday. I hope the waitlist comes through for us as it did for you, pat-rick!I figure, nothing ventured, nothing gained. If it doesn't come through, we'll have 8 glorious days at HH without having to pack up and move to Disney and then back to HH again. If it comes through, I'm keeping it a secret from my son who keeps hinting how he can't believe we're skipping Disney this year. Please wish me good fortune that our one bedroom becomes available!

Nice try, Ed!! I tried to get ressies for Shelby's birthday (12/4-12/7) and could not get anything at OKW but a 2 br. Decided not to waitlist. Nice b-day present for an 8 y.o., huh? So, the move is on? Glad to hear things are going the way you wanted. Take care and keep in touch!

Just out of curiosity, why don't you try "renting" your points, then using the cash to stay at a Non DVC around Thanksgiving. I figure it's a trade off - You won't get the accommodations of a DVC, but you will get the availability of a "regular" hotel, while someone else who wants to go off peak, can get a great DVC room, at a great price.

Just wondering...

P.S. - Why don't more people do this. For example, folks might want to try Contemporary or something, and use their DVC points at a very low value. Why don't they just rent points to someone who wants to go to a DVC at $10 per point and book a discounted Ressie (As an example, Code CLS {available from September 25 - October 2} gets you a garden room at Contemporary for only $149 per night on September 25, while a DVC point purchase would cost you 28 points for the same Sunday night {i.e. $280 more than $130 extra per night for the same room}). Am I missing something as to why more DVCers don't do this? Note: I'm not a DVC member yet, but I am seriously considering it. Let me know why this isn't feasable for some folks, ok? :)

It pays to call again. Just spoke with MS, one day later and they got me 2 nights Nov 29 & 30 in a standard studio at BWV. Originally only had one night. Now wait listed for Nov 27 & 28 at BWV or all four nights at OKW, BCV.

Thanks for all the advice.

Ed

Glad you have started to piece something together, Ed. Good luck with the rest!
