A stranger knocks on your door , asks to use your toilet, what do you say?

My mom lives on the lake near Seattle and their nearest neighbors are about 1/4 mile away. She was so surprised that we locked our car doors and even the house doors during the day. They never lock their doors

your mom is either really brave or doesn't watch any true crime shows b/c washington is a hotbed of serial killers and wackos. i watch dozens of these shows per week and the pacific northwest constantly comes up. i knew it before i moved here but it was really driven home when i was watching one of the crime shows and started recognizing the names of locations as being near the middle of nowhere that i live. come to find out a serial killer spent his childhood playing in the acreage around our home-then came back and dumped at least one body right by our home (more are suspected but due to wildlife the remains are likely very scattered). when dh is working on the property i warn him 'don't dig too deep':guilty::scared:

i don't know a single person who leaves their doors unlocked anywhere.

I’m another that wouldn’t even have answered the door. But, if for some reason I did, I’d direct them to the closest gas station a few blocks away or even the city park with bathrooms a few blocks away as well.

Seriously. Do people not watch true crime shows? To add to the normal suspicions, I also live about 30 min. from Baltimore. It's a high crime area. My mom lives on the lake near Seattle and their nearest neighbors are about 1/4 mile away. She was so surprised that we locked our car doors and even the house doors during the day. They never lock their doors. I told her, 'This is Baltimore. We lock our doors." :(
I watch lots of crime shows!! Dateline, 20/20, everything on the investigation discovery channel!! I lock my doors behind me every time I enter my house!

Prior to covid the answer would have been no.
Since covid the answer would be DOUBLE NO

I have a Ring camera at every entry of my home. I just look on my phone and see who is at the door. I don't even answer if it's a stranger.

And then stand there by the door with a chefs knife in case they try to attack me.
Not a good move if you think someone may attack you. You'd most likely lose your life because of that chef's knife. I have other items myself.

My mother's friend sleeps with a BB gun under her pillow. What do people think in this world?

My door might be unlocked right now. I don't worry too much about it, I live in a trailer park. Not much to steal here. And when alone, it's usually unlocked as I go in and out to do stuff a lot. Usually leave and run to the store or whatever and leave it unlocked.

No way!!! I don't open the door for anyone! Ever!

Back in 2001 the murders of two Dartmouth professors happened in our state. After that our door remains locked 24-7.

My house is set far back. Plenty of houses on the block are set near the street. I’d wonder why they didn’t choose one of those instead, so probably wouldn’t not lend my bathroom. But we don’t lock our door unless going on vacation. I don’t lock my car unless there’s a laptop or something valuable inside.

I would not have answered the door. In the event they saw me I would direct them a mile up the road to town.

Us too. We normally just talk to a stranger through the Ring. If they asked to come in to use the bathroom, I would say no, and direct them to the WaWa around the corner, which has a restroom.

First issue with this is I wouldn't have answered in the first place :)
I do not answer the door to strangers either. I have ring camera for that purpose. If my dad is present, he usually goes to talk to whoever it is.
I would never let a stranger in my house because we are not right of the road, we're in a cul de sac so my suspicious mind would wonder why they drove all the way up here.

The question would never be asked because I wouldn’t open the door.:sad2:
