A Strange Waterpark Question

Has anyone ever had their bathing suit ruined at a water park? I am speaking of too much chlorine. Last year at typhoon lagoon I bought one of my ds a brand new bathing suit. It was tropical print light blue with dark blue flowers.When he came out of the water, we couldnt believe it, all the light blue dye had come out. I wasnt really too upset because I bought it at walmart, but they wouldnt wear it again because of the color change. This has never happened at blizzard beach or any resort pool we have been it. Maybe because it stormed the day before and the chlorine levels were out of wack/adjusted etc? Any one have a similar experience?

Had a similar experience with a t-shirt that DS wore at BB. The outside of the shirt faded...alot. The inside of the shirt faded slightly. That was the only experience. We has annual passes to the water parks, go frequently and never had a problem before. We usually rinse out our suits as soon as we are finished swimming.

While chlorine may play a part of it, some of it may be the dye on the clothing.

I wore a shirt and board shorts at Typhoon Lagoon, and the resort pools at the Beach Club and the Polynesian and never had a problem.

No, never. I'd bet the suit manufacturer used a really cheap dye on your suit.

I sure hope this isn't a problem because I have some bathing suits I like and would hate for them to get ruined... maybe it wasn't the clorine but just water that ruined it? Was it suppose to be washed before wearing?

never had a problem with this, but beware of the textured bottom on many pools (there and otherwise) as well as the textured areas surrounding the pool. they snag the heck out of your suit. ruined a new suit sitting in the shallow area of the wave pool at TL. the textured bottom made the butt of my new suit a complete mess of fuss and snags.

I agree with Kim about the cheap fabric/dye. We've never had that problem either.

But with that thought in mind... I always have the kids wear their older swimsuits, because with all the slides, etc, I notice that they get a little pilled on the rear ends.

I save their nice suits for beach and resort pools.

IMO, if there was enough chlorine in the water in the water parks to fade suits/T-shirts after just one visit, your skin would be really irritated. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that most water parks/ public pools are now using boron instead of chlorine too.
