First of all, let me start by saying that we had a wonderful Christmas trip to Disneyland from the 8-13 of December. It was a week filled with firsts and so many good things that the one really bad night seems to fade in our memories. Second, this will most likely get to be a long post by the time I tell our story and give Disney CMs all the kudos they deserve for helping us so much!!:thumbsup2

Sunday we spent all day enjoying CA. We were up for our last ride of the evening at about 6:00 so we used our FP for Soarin'. When we re-emerged 15 minutes later, our entire stroller was gone!! Completely gone!! We were in shock. In all of our previous visits we had never had any problems of any kind. DH did a quick look see in the area and then went and told security, and within minutes the entire cast was radioed what was up. Security took a report from us, and in the meantime the custodial cast was searching bathrooms and exits around the ride and Taste Pilots Grill. When nothing appeared, the Security Guard walked me back to their office to file a report while the head custodial CM took my husband and 2 daughters to World of Disney to replace a few things that had been taken in hopes it would help ease our daughters concern. Our main concern was that DD(7) had her favorite Blankie (yes, it even has a name!!) tucked on board for when she tired later in the evening. It was gone and she was heartbroken. We were all very upset and it was mostly over the possibility of never seeing Blankie again...bad, bad news!! Amber the custodial CM picked up on this right away and hence was doing all she could to get my DD a new blanket to help tide her until her old Blankie reappeared (hopefully). They also used NSA vouchers to replace the Santa Mickey and Dale hats that my husband and older daughter had left behind and to get 2 stuffed toys for the girls to cuddle. WOW!!! The Security CM (Ron) was so honest and reassuring to me with information and I am so thankful for that!! He said that it was quite possible they would find our stroller somewhere in the resort later that night after all the guests had gone. He also said to be prepared that a lot of our stuff could be gone, or that it may never surface at all. I was bummed as we had our warm wear on board for later in the evening, our wet wear for the water rides and forecast rain, and my poor DH had forgotten to grab our camera which had not been downloaded of pictures yet...

So, we did our best to carry on for a bit more, even with heavy hearts. We walked the pier area and around Soarin' again, in hopes we would find what was left of our stroller. We rode a few rides hoping to get our minds off of things for at least a bit. We are so proud of how well our daughters carried on in light of the event!!

We finally gave in and headed over to Disney to meet some friends of ours and get some very belated dinner for the girls. While standing in front of the Little Red Wagon, we received a call just before 11:00 pm that they had found our stroller in Bugs Land during their security sweep after all the guests had cleared. We could come collect what they had found at the entrance. Oh how our hearts felt lightened!! We made a mad dash over there and were met by security CM Candi, who explained where they had found it and that almost everything seemed to be intact. She also told us that we were one of 4 reported thefts in the entire park that day, and it was busy! She called that a 'rash' of crime for the park?? She also gave us a few security tips for future visits. But the big thing was that Blankie was there!! Oh the delight on our faces and the alligator tears my daughter cried when her trusted friend returned!!

So, the entire point to the post is this: bad things do happen at the DLR. NEVER leave anything that is irreplaceable unattended! The cast members do more than I have ever seen to make things better and easier to deal with (or at least as easy as possible given the circumstances). Items were replaced as possible, almost everything was returned, and we still had 2 days to retake our pictures (though phone cameras don't quite compare to a real camera...). By the way, they were even so kind as to let us retake our character breakfast pictures that had been on the camera from our Saturday morning Minnie and friends breakfast!! Overall we ended up having a great time and are now able to look back on the longest 5 hours of our Disney experience with a positive point of view.:santa:

I am so glad you got her blankie back! These stories break my heart. My kids (and now grandkids) all had "kikis". We would be devastated if they were lost!!! We leave TOMORROW for our first trip with the two-years-old on Sunday grandbabies. We got a bike lock for their double stroller! You had a wonderful (mostly) happy ending.

Remember you can't lock it TO anything.

That is right. The security CM told us that you can NOT lock a stroller to anything. However she did tell is that you can run a bike lock THROUGH the spokes of your stroller wheels if your stroller wheels have them. Ours does, but I never would have thought to run it through the spokes of all 4 wheels had she not told us about doing it! It's pretty much impossible to push a stroller if the wheels don't turn! The CMs can still move your stroller, though, even if they have to scoot it, inch worm style!

I am happy your story has a happy ending. I think the really important message for others here is not to leave anything valuable (monetary or sentimental) sitting unattended anywhere, including Disneyland.

Protect the things you care about. Those of us without strollers carry everything with us or use lockers, we do not put bags of expensive stuff down next to parked strollers with the hope that it will be there when we return. Just because it's in a stroller does not mean it's safe. It might as well be sitting on a bench.

Thank you. We won't. I love the tips you can get on this board. Things we never thought of when our children were younger. Someone on here suggested doing a figure-8 between the back wheels. Then the CMs can still tip it forward to roll it if they need to. We used to lock our stroller to stuff when my kids were small, but I read on here they've gotten much more sticky about that now. (That was back when we went in the 'off season' when there actually WAS an 'off season'.)

It sounds like they at least stole the camera...if not more.

I always take our camera with us on rides. But we bring an old ratty stroller and tie balloons to it so its not a good target at all anyway.

A not good story with a semi-positive ending.

Lovely to hear how helpful the CM's were about everything:)

Sounds like everything worked out in the end. That is great news to hear. Cameras can be replaced. sounds like you were able to replace the pictures that were taken. We too have a blankie with a name. My daughter takes her DDT (Disney Dark Time) blanket with us into the park instead of taking the blankie. Its a special blankie made just for our trips. She covers herself with it when there is too much stimulus. Im a sneaky mom. I Make extras of the same blanket just incase one comes up missing. Glad yours came home!

I just want to thank you for posting this experience. My husband and I are Disney FANATICS but have not had kids for these first 9 years of our marriage. We were always curious about leaving strollers and stuff around the park - but we never really had to think about it because we didn't have kids. We are pregnant now with our first child (yay!) :woohoo: so we've been wondering more and more about things like this. Anyway - we are REALLY glad to know that Disney CMs are so helpful and accommodating in this type of situation. What I'm wondering from those of you with kids is, considering that strollers cost a good $300 these days - would this be a good reason to rent a Disney stroller every time we go, instead of taking our own? I realize we would have to remove our valuables and take them on the rides, but at least an expensive stroller wouldn't disappear. Then again, would a rented stroller be a more likely target because people just assume it's not that family's stroller anyway and will stay at the park no matter what? Then again - we are socal residents and go to Disney ALL THE TIME, so renting strollers would probably get expensive. Should we invest in a cheaper stroller for the sole purpose of using it at the parks over the expensive one? But if we did that I suppose it would defeat the purpose of having bought the "nice" stroller in the first place. LOL, I've never been a parent or pushed a stroller before so I have no idea! There's so much to think about! What are your recommendations for this, if any?

Thanks!
Almost a new "Disney mom" :flower3:

I'm glad to hear that most of your stuff was recovered. I'm really neurotic about my stuff. We usually take an OK (Jeep brand) stroller I bought off of craigslist to Disney with us. It still has cupholders, a basket, etc, but wouldn't be the biggest deal (financially speaking) in the world if it was stolen. However, I always take everything except our water bottles with us - even if it means carrying my purse, a backpack and a shopping bag with me onto every ride (Luckily, DH and the girls don't ride Screamin' - so I leave everything but the purse with them when I SR it - I carry the stuff on to every other ride.)

We've always been a little leery of leaving stuff in our strollers when we're there, but I think if you don't leave merchandise & things of value on it....chances are, it won't be too much of a target. We have 2 very nice jogging strollers we use for our autistic twins & if we were to have one of those taken, they girls would be devistated. So we only leave diapers/wipes & a few small trinkets on them when we leave them.

I'm glad you were able to get most of your stuff back & especially the blanket (we had one of our girls blankies taken right out of our stroller when we were at the zoo this summer.....sad someone would do that) I'm also glad you were able to go back to get some of the pictures you lost on the camera.

Yay for the CM's for being awesome!!!!

All we leave in the stroller is water, apple juice and occasionally a jacket we're willing to lose (no character stuff ever!). We carry a back pack with us on the rides, and everywhere, with the camera, a bottle when the kids are young enough, any medicines we might need (including my epi pen and anything for the kids), etc.

I bring my own stroller and chance it (knowing there's a Target close by makes this easier), but by keeping nothing in it, and bringing my oldest, cheapest, but well rolling stroller, I minimize my chance of risk.

I am so glad that you all took the point of my post in the right context!! We were never worried about the entire stroller coming up missing because it's an 11 year old Graco that has been well loved through 2 girls and 6 Disney trips among other adventures!! It is very obvious they were not after the stroller itself, just the camera we unintentionally left behind! DH remembered he left it on board but figured it would be safe for the 10 minutes we were inside Soarin', especially since the stroller was parked between a railing and and bunch of other strollers with a friends stroller behind it blocking it in!! It was very evident that it was a targeted snatch. They ended up taking the camera and all the accessories (bummer!! But alas, we knew better and shouldn't have left it...), a bag of p-nut butter m&m's, a Dale hat, a Mickey Santa hat, a striped knit beanie hat, and 2 pairs of cheap sunglasses. Our bags had been gone through, very little turned up missing, not even our energy drinks!:confused3

I wouldn't hesitate to take our stroller again and I would leave it without hesitation. However, in the future, I would be a bit more selective of what we placed in the basket under it. I would NEVER leave the camera again and would go back for it if left. Also, I would not leave Blankie or anything else that we weren't willing to replace or couldn't be replaced. When you consider the 1000's of strollers in the parks every day, we just happened to be among the .00001% that got hit. Chances are pretty slim anything will happen to a random stroller....especially if easy preventative measures are met. We just trusted in the fact that we would never be in that small percentage of people that actually had anything happen!! :rolleyes1

I saw several people searching for their strollers last week. I was amazed at the number of Disney bags I saw under strollers and on handles sitting in the stroller parking areas. I'm surprised more doesn't get stollen. We were extra careful this time, thanks to this thread!

Edited to change 'was' to 'saw'

Glad to hear you recovered the blankie! Maybe your camera will turn up. Ours did after a week. Glad to hear too that the CMs were so good to you.

Kidlette - I bought a cheapo stroller just for amusement parks, I also use it at the dusty zoo, so we did end up using it somewhat regularly. We put lots of stuff in the stroller but important things are contained to a blue backpack (with a green Mickey head ;) which will go with either of us on every ride. Or at the very minimum, DH will put my wallet in his cargo shorts and the camera too. I don't know what the current deal is with Disney Visa cardholders, but I think they may get a discount on stroller rentals.
