A simple request from Buzz for this holiday weekend. First Happy Halloween weekend to all Disboarders. Second, if you know someone who is Catholic, please wish them a Happy/Blessed Allhallowtide. It's the correct greeting for/to those who are Catholic. Traditionally, these 3 days (Halloween, All Saints Day, and All Souls Day) are a sacred celebration for us. This thread is simply meant as a PSA for those who don't know why this weekend is special for Catholics. Thank you for taking the time to read this message. Happy celebrating everyone. 😊

I follow no traditions at all and this is meant in a kindly fashion --

r.e. 2nd bold -- "I'm rubber, you're glue; whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you" :teeth:

Am Catholic and have never heard of those days being grouped together and called by that name. Halloween was never a Catholic religious holiday as far as I can recall. Some religious people I know are opposed to celebrating Halloween as they feel it is anti-religion, but to each their own. All Saints/Souls days have always been to referred to by those names. Not aware of any special religious significance compared to various other holidays celebrated all throughout the year.

My DIL was raised Pentecostal (Mom Pentecostal, Dad lapsed Catholic) and her Mother is vehemently against Halloween. Like - don't even bring it up. All the Catholics I know (and other religions and non-religious) don't' have a issue with it one way or another, nor is it a big holiday in their church(s). My DIL also doesn't do Halloween, and my granddaughter won't be allowed to do it...not a hill I'm going to die on but also not something I understand. But that's okay.

I grew up in South Texas and Dia de los Muertos was widely observed. I thought it was creepy but cool when I was a kid. My Catholic school had an amazing Halloween carnival. My family went to church on All Saints Day and we remembered our deceased loved ones on All Souls Day. I've never heard the term Allhallowtide.

I have details on it on my Catholic thread on the controversial board.

Same. We went to church on All Saints day, but that was about it for religious observance.

Just saying, as a Catholic I'd be kinda confused if somebody wished me a "Happy/Blessed Allhallowtide".
Fair. My Catholic school and parish mentioned the term for years. A lot of Catholic social media has to talked about it and how the rechristianizing of the 3 day celebration is making a comeback among the faithful.

That's interesting, I'm not Catholic but I listen to on average 2 hours of Catholic media 5 days a week and I've never heard anyone talk about it. Interesting.

Don’t forget that it may actually be a 4 day weekend in some areas… Tuesday is Election Day and some schools also cancelled Monday.

Buzz, you know me and my views. I just question whether we need to adhere to strict calendars and dates in order to properly worship God :) I pray every day, but I don't follow all religious holidays. I don't think Jesus really cares whether we do or not. However, if you derive comfort from it all, I say go for it with all guns blazing!

It's meant a simple extra devotion to God.

I can send you sources if you would like to know what I'm talking about.
