A silly question

Do you say "Hi", "Hello", or something else, when you greet someone? Does it make a difference if the person's a stranger or not?

Lots of times if I know the person I'll say hey or yo (yo's a Philly thing, I think). If I happen to catch a stranger's eye, I will always acknowlege them with a nod, a smile, or a hello. Like when I'm out walking. Is that what you meant?

I say "Hi" to people I dont know to be friendly or "Heeey" to people I know... LOL

yep, something like that.

I have to say something to everyone that comes near me at work. And most people say "hi". My "hi" comes out too soft, so I say a casual "hello". For some reason it's louder.

Anyway, it got me wondering. lol

I always say HI, It's really nice to meet you...Unless it's a formal business thing, then it's just hello, and when we leave I say it was very nice to meet you.

This was drilled into my head from my wonderful Grandmother since I was LITTLE....

go figure what becomes important to people!

I usually say "hi" face to face, but it's always "hello" when answering the phone. When you think about it, that doesn't make a lot of sense, but many things don't these days.

With my son and his family in Sweden, it's either "hey" or "hi." When answering the phone, they just say their name.

People I know it's hey or hi. Strangers mostly hello.
