Hello everyone and welcome to my first dining review. I have been reading dining reviews for years and have never had the time or energy to write one myself. This year I told myself I was going to write one no matter what. Now this review is going to be short, sweet, and to the point. There will not be any pictures because my fiance thought it was weird to take pictures of our food. He did not want any attention directed towards us because the "just engaged" buttons were enough for him. Now a little bit about us...
I am Kristen, a 25 year old cook from Ohio. My whole life revolves around food, just like my Disney vacations. I will be honest with you, I do not consider myself a food snob, but I will tell you when food is not up to par. I like to go into restaurants with an open mind. I work in a small, family-owned Italian restaurant, so I may be a little bit of an Italian food snob, but hey, I'm allowed to be.
My fiance is Brandon, a 20 year old mill worker, who just learned to love Disney last year. He is much less of a food critic then me. He just eats, whether it is good or bad. As long as iti s food he does not care. He usually does not have much say on where we eat because he can find something to eat almost anywhere.
We were in Disney from May 26-June 2 for free dining. Our first night we were not on the dining plan and we paid out of pocket. We were also celebrating our engagement while on this trip. We stayed at Coronado Springs, which was a first for us and we really enjoyed it. But more on that in my trip report. Now I will tell you that we eat most of our breakfasts in our room because I always being breakfast foods with us. But other than that, the rest of our meals are Disney restaurants. Here is a list of where we ate...
May 26~Earl of Sandwich (dinner), Ghiradelli's (dessert)
May 27~Casey's Corner (lunch), Tony's Town Square (dinner), MK snack cart, Pepper Market (snack)
May 28~Starring Rolls (lunch), Cape May Clam Bake (dinner), Rix Cafe (snack)
May 29~Sunshine Seasons (lunch), Chefs de France (dinner), Kringla Bakery (snack)
May 30~Flame Tree BBQ (lunch), Captain Hooks (snack), Whispering Canyon Cafe (dinner)
May 31~Main Street Bakery (breakfast), Peco's Bill (lunch), Kona Cafe (dinner)
June 1~Pepper Market (lunch), Turf Club Bar and Grill (dinner), Aloha Isle (snack)
June 2~Rix Cafe (breakfast)
Day 1-May 26:
Dinner:
This day was our arrival day. We had a late flight and arrived into MCO around 6:30, by the time we got to Coronado, it was about 7:30 and we were hungry! We found our room, changed our clothes and headed off to DTD since we didn't have any tickets for this day. We decided we would try Earl of Sandwich because I had heard so many good reviews of it. When we got there the line was very long, but we knew it had to be worth it.
I got the Cannonballs, which is a meatball sub with macaroni salad and a coke. It was really good! The sauce was sweet too, which I really enjoyed. The macaroni salad was also good and I am not even a big macaroni salad fan.
DF got the Hawaiian BBQ sub with macaroni salad and a coke. He loved it. The BBQ sauce had a hint of smokiness in it, mixed with the sweetness of the pineapple and ham made it really good. The bite I had was really good. I can see why the place was so busy.
Overall it was a really good meal. It was just what we needed after a long flight. We paid out of pocket for this meal, I think it was around $20, which is not bad for a Disney meal. We will definitely go back here again.
Dessrt:
After EoS, we headed over to Ghiradelli's. The line was out the door!! I really wanted to try one of their sundaes so I told Brandon we would wait it out. And it is a good thing we did because it was amazing!
I had the Rocky Road Sundae. It was huge. It had two scoops of rocky road ice cream and a scoop of marshmallow ice cream, plus whipped cream and chocolate covered almonds. It was so good, but too big for me to finish.
Brandon had the Very Berry Sundae. This was also very good. It was vanilla ice cream with different fruit sauces. I think it had blueberry and strawberry sauces plus som efresh berries. I tried to the blueberry sauce...let me just say..I could have eaten a whole bowl of that on its own.
Another very good dining experience. There are so many more sundaes that I want to try from there, so we will definitely be going back there again. The only downfall is the price, it is a bit on the expensive side, around $20 for two sundaes, but the quality of the ice cream and the size of the sundaes make it well worth it. Like I always say, we are in Disney, it is going to be expensive. Overall, I feel that it was a great first night in Disney, with two good dining experiences.
Up Next...Day 2, how will this food turn out???
