A selective coloring question

The selective coloring thread is wonderful!

I had even done one. But now I have a question.

I did ALOT of work on a photo. I saved along the way. I then accidentally closed Photoshop Elements. So I go back to work on the photo and the layers are gone!

How can I go back to a photo without having to do all that work again? All the work I had done is there of course, but I need to do some more to it.

Does this make sense?

if the layers are gone thne there is nothing you can do but start over. You can add to the layer that is left but can't change the layers that are locked. Sorry, we have all done this at one time.
