A scary wake up call for me.

My mom who developed adult onset diabetes type 2 has been keeping blood work low enough to not need insulin but she found out from Dr. that she will have to go on insulin now. Its scary because of my weight I don't wanna develop this too. So I really need to get to a healthy weight. My mom developed it about 8 years ago or so. Along with that we have a history of heart problems in my family.

This is scary for me as I have over 100 lbs to loose. Yikes I gotta get really serious. I've been busy trying to get a couple of home based business up and running so haven't been online much or paying much attention to weight. And to top if off we are having financial problems and will probably have to file bankruptcy. So I will be infrequently here for awhile. Hopefully be back full on by next month. I got my daughters first birthday party coming up and a bunch to plan and prepare for bankruptcy and such. I will be watching my weight just not as full on as I'd like.

I'm up only a couple lbs so if I get back to my WATP video this weekend and next week and on I should be back down where I was soon. :)

Hi Melissa!

Your story sounds so very similar to mine, and I just want to give you some encouraging words to let you know that you can do it, too!

I lost 110 pounds in 15 months (235 lbs. to 125-127) with a program of good nutrition/portion control and consistent exercise. I've kept it off for 6 months now (with a lifetime to go)!

My father has high BP and cholesterol, and had a stroke at 49. My mom has type 2 diabetes (now insulin-dependent), high BP and cholesterol and had a heart attack and quadruple bypass at age 60. Whoa--can we say GENETICS?! It was not the path I wanted to follow, but sadly I found myself in the same circumstances. My BP, cholesterol, triglycerides, and sugar levels were all high--I was a borderline diabetic and only 35. Well, 110 pounds and two years later, all my blood levels are normal:) and I have increased my fitness level and quality of life tenfold!

It was a very difficult and long process which tested me both physically and emotionally. The biggest thing I had to get through my head was that these changes in my diet and exercise had to be LIFETIME changes--I would be successful no other way. There were so very many times when I questioned whether or not all the hard work would be worth it. But I can honestly tell you that it was worth every single second! Coming from a place where I was unhealthy and unfit to where I can now out push-up my dh:p is a journey that I would undertake again in a heartbeat!

Melissa, this is something you can do. Believe me, sweetie, I know how daunting it looks! It will be hard work and you'll face many ups and downs along the way (as in every aspect of life, no?:) ). But your goals ARE attainable and within your grasp! You can do anything! Your health is worth it. You are worth it!

Much luck and good wishes to you as you work towards your health and fitness goals!

Wow, Melissa. I wish you the best of luck. I'm not sure anyone could have phrased it as lovely as luvmydogs did - sharing your story is an inspiration. You'll be in my prayers. When you have the opportunity, check in with us and let us know how you're doing.

Melissa, just wanted to add my hang in there, it will get better. I too have family history and was just told two days ago that I must wear support stockings from the minute I get up until I go to sleep (only exceptions are showers and swimming) for the rest of my life because the vlaves in the veins in my legs are not working but I am determined to get healthier overall by losing weight and making regular exercise a part of my life. I will be thinking of you and sending prayers. You can do it!

Thank you all for you kind words. :)

I'll be around just not as much as I'd like. :)

Melissa - hugs to you sweetie! I don't have the medical history of your family but I do have a total of 140 pounds to lose to put me in a healthy weight range. It seemed a daunting task but I'm almost half way to goal.

Kim's words are so much more inspirational than anything I could say. I just want you to know that when you are ready, we are hear for you and that it's definitely doable. You have to take small steps and they will lead to the big steps.

Please take care and check in with us when you can! :sunny:
