Any idea how long his appeal will take?

Personally, I don't find him all that appealing.

Oh I had hoped he was going to get a life time ban to send a message to the other roid heads. A-Roid will no doubt appeal and that will most likely take most of the rest of this season, he will no doubt be out all next year though. However, I suppose its possible a ruling on his appeal could come sooner rather than later, since I believe it goes to the Commissioner and since he just made the decision doesn't seem like it would take him long to deliberate on an appeal merely to say, its denied. If it was a serious situation, he could deny it within a week if he really wanted to.

What makes it way worse is his attitude with it, Lance Armstrong #2 here. He is vowing to fight it and yada yada yada, hmmm yeah you are guilty, what exactly are you fighting? You want to be a role model? Hmmm :rotfl2: Yeah that's great, why didn't you think of that before you started eating PEDs like they were PEZ

I don't understand why this kinda stuff makes headlines anymore. It's rampant in baseball. A headline that reads 'Hey! This guy over here - he DOESN'T take steroids! NO JOKE!' would be more surprising.

I don't really follow baseball but on the radio they were saying he could file a grievence and force it to arbitration so the Commish wouldn't have the final say if that is the case

I am far from an expert on the situation and the procedures. I am a casual Baseball fan at best. I am not sure, but I want to say he could even take the Commish's final decision to a regular court to have that over turned, but I do not know for sure. In any event, he's super guilty, he's already admitted to using them a few years ago, not sure what he's trying to prove, this looks even more dumb than Lance Armstrong since he's already admitted guilt in the past. He must be even more delusional than lance.

Thank you. He should be banned for life, then.

Why is that? That's not what the CBA says, the MLB is trying to circumvent the CBA in my eyes it's BS. IMO the league is trying to get the Yankees out of his massive contract and that is why this has all taken so long. The Yankees knew about his admitted steroid use before they resigned him, now he has declined and they want out.

I suspect he'll appeal to salvage this season, then "retire"... citing his injuries, not the PED suspension. He'll never be able to come back at pro level at his age, after than much time away, and only make an *** of himself trying.

And I think the suspension, rather than a lifetime ban, was as much a punishment for the Yankees organization (who likely must have known that doping was going on in their clubhouse, considering how many of their players have been involved in these scandals in recent years) as for A-Rod himself. A lifetime ban would have invalidated his contract; under suspension, they're still on the hook for the lion's share of his ridiculous salary.

Good point about the suspension over the ban (its hard to bold on my phone). I didn't think of it like.

Don't listen to A-rod's lawyers. From the CBA: "The Parties recognize that a Player may be subjected to disciplinary action for just cause by his Club, the Senior Vice President, Standards and On-Field Operations or the Commissioner."

He used something banned by MLB. They have just cause.

I agree that all other noise is about $$$$. From A-rod as well as the Yankees.

Just read a piece from thr nyt that answered it. First it would go to arbitration and then a lot of legal manuvers very complicated if you ask me and The Yankee legally can't void his contract

The big problem with this whole situation is demonstrated in this thread. Hatred for A-Rod has gotten him a larger punishment than he deserves.

Did he take PEDs? Absolutely, don't think he will even deny it. Did he keep PEDs in his house? Absolutely. Did he suggest the clinic to others? Probably. Is any of that worse than what others who got lesser suspensions did? Not really.

MLB came down way harder on A-Rod simply because he is "frustrating". They can't do that. No matter how much they hate him and how much he is hated, he deserves the same as everyone else who is associated with biogenesis. He is going to fight for just a 50 game suspension which is what he deserves (based off of what others got).

I really think MLB is just trying to make a big statement here. They're taking one of the sports biggest names (even if you don't follow baseball you know A-Rod maybe from his celebrity dating history and such) and suspending him for as long as possible to try and say "we are done with PED users".

Too bad the truth is they aren't. For starters, all of the players suspended today have never failed a drug test which shows that MLB's testing is still not good enough. Also, look at Bartolo Colon (pitcher for Oakland A's), suspended last season and an All-Star this season. How is that going to stop players from taking PEDs?

The MLB is still a joke when it comes to PEDs and this A-Rod situation just proves it farther. This became a big publicity stunt for them. Also just look at how long the official announcement took. Rumors started in early June that A-Rod would be suspended. The evidence has been there, the MLB has just drug it out.

To farther add to this all, the CBA gives punishments for players failing drug tests. I'm sure A-Rod's team will argue that he never failed a drug test which does not warrant a punishment. It is a good point. Surprised player's union is not making a bigger deal over MLB creating their own punishments in this situation. That is the big issue at the end of the day, what the MLB has done is unprecedented and they are basing if off of nothing.

This is not true. They resigned him at the end of 2007. He did not become strongly linked to steroids and did not admit until early 2009. Very unlikely the Yankees knew he took steroids in Texas in late 2007, VERY unlikely.
