A Response from WDIG (Walt Disney Internet Group) - (Merged)

Sign me up- I'll play- I've been looking into going to the Universal parks- never been- but hey- if I was playing a game from them that I'd love- I'd certainly visit their parks and cut my disney visit short...

Maybe this is one way to cause a big stink. What if we started sending letters to Universal on how Di$ney is dropping this ball. How many kids and adults do you think would LOVE to sign up to virtually enroll at Hogwarts? Whole new community just waiting to happen....Seriously, think of all the games waiting to happen! hmmmmm......

Of course we could also send some letters to Kellogs. They DID sponsor VMK in the beginning.

Basically, what I get from this e-mail is:

Dear Concerned Customer,

Blah blah blah blah blah. Yadda yadda company jargon, yadda yadda company slogan, yadda yadda exploit famous quote. Blah blah blah. Blah blah "Let's shove more Johnny Depp down their throats!" Bibbidi boppidi go cry in a corner.

Yours Truly,
We don't care.

;)

Hahahahaha!

Do you really want an answer to that?

Hey. If you want to give up, go for it.

But please stop trying to tell others to give up.

Nope, I've never been to Universal. When they open Harry Potter, I'll probably make the effort because I love the books. Still, a Harry Potter online game could be very cool.

Don't forget their new roller coaster that soars over City Walk. Hollywood Rip, Ride and Rockit! You can pick your own music track to listen to on-ride and at the end you go to a terminal choose your onride video that you took and can send it to your email post it on youtube. Great year for universal!

oops, missed that this was up here, sorry about the double thread. I got this letter too, don't quite know what to make of it

Being perfectly honest, Phase 1 is complete! We definitely got their attention.

People had to meet to discuss how to create that form letter to respond.

Phase 2... continued pressure! @_@

Remember to always be respectful!

Does anyone know if there is a way to contact Diane Disney Miller, Walt's eldest daughter? I am talking about public contact information, of course. Would be interesting to see what she thinks of her father's words being used in this way...

Just a thought. :thumbsup2

Let's not be so critical! Maybe you don’t like ToonTown or Club Penguin, but the message suggests that new virtual worlds are on the horizon and that is certainly promising! Let’s look forward to these. I also don’t think it was a misuse of Walt’s quote; when resources are limiting some doors need to be closed so others can be opened. Getting rid of the old to make way for the new!

But why would I want to try a "Cars" virtual online game when they can just say "Oh, that was a promotion for Cars 2. We are shutting that down."

Walt never closed a Park. A ride? Yes. A park? No. Things have come and gone in VMK too. But don't close down our park!

Isn't there a Disney train museum in CA? I thought I heard that she, or someone in the family, was running that.

What a perfect way to put it!! :thumbsup2

That's not even a hand written response.
That was just copied and pasted out of the newsletter.
Check it yourself.

Cold hearted parasites.

Unless they plan on releasing a virtual WDW, then I'm not interested in their 'Exciting plans for the future' :snooty:

That's better than Disney's email.. ;)

they copied and pasted this onto VMK for the Yavn Speaks! That is just. . .sad.

Though I would agree with your sentiment, I would urge everyone to keep Diane Disney Miller out of this - she's a wonderful lady who has nothing to do with VMK or any other company issue. She is deeply involved in her father’s legacy with the family museum in California and other worthy events.

I would recommend that we keep those who really matter the focus of our requests. Keep alerting the Disney Corporate brass with your concerns - that's our only hope to change what is an increasingly becoming a final decision.

By all means work to “save VMK”, but do so keeping in mind that the company that brought us VMK could very easily do it all over again with something even better. This decision wasn’t about ruining magic; there’s a wonderful world of Disney magic out there waiting to be discovered in the parks, on the internet, and through television and movies.

I can’t help but think this is just the first step in a long-term plan for improving the Disney Online experience. Faith, trust and pixie dust. I for one can’t wait to see what is ahead!

I just wanted to say something I know CelebrationNM and me seem to see things from two different views. But he has a wonderful love for disney. He has share with me about where he stands and has been very helpful in showing me the suit side of disney. Because of this I changed my letter.

It still have the stories I was sharing, but I learned how to get my point across in a much simpler way. If we listen to his comments they can be very helpful.

He is really trying to keep us focused. He is not really saying give up. He is trying to keep us positive.

He has not told us to give up and quit.

What is the point of getting mad at the update or why or how they are using disney quotes.

Does it really change our focus. No. Anyhow what we have learned from our letter writing is tiny bit of information is being share.

So focus people. Maybe more will leak out about these new horizons.

We have explored many different options, including a pay to play model but have decided to focus more of our time on our new virtual worlds coming soon, which we are sure that you will love as much as VMK.

They shouldn't be so sure. I've seen their new offerings. (i) They lack the magic. (ii) We can't trust getting into those game, because those could just be shut down, too.

But in a company that encourages innovation and creativity we have decided to "keep moving forward" and exploring where the future takes as, because in the words of Walt Disney, "We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."

They make it sound like VMK is such old and ancient technology that they need to close it down, like an old ride that no one is riding anymore, to make way for the new and modern stuff.

By the time they realize what a mistake they are making, it will be too late to fix it. Sigh.

Sorry for being a tad off topic, but does this remind anyone of the Disney 1992 movie: The Newsies? It's where a bunch of newsboys went on strike because of an increase of the papers price to them. Through increased pressure and the help of figures such as Teddy Roosevelt, and a newspaper to overthrow Joseph Pulitzer. It's kind of like us vmk'ers getting attention to overthrow Disney.

I wrote an email to Disney Internet Group a couple days ago, and received the same canned response this evening from DOL Producers.

At least now we know they're listening, and feeling the pressure :thumbsup2
