Arriving & Chef Mickeys
The Magical Express bus was quite relaxing. I noticed MagicalDad was able to catch a few Zzzzzzzzs. I was so proud that I was able to use my special planning techniques in order to ensure him a restful bus ride to the resort.
We arrived at Port Orleans Riverside at 2:30. What a beautiful resort. Ill admit that it doesnt take much to impress those that usually stay at the Days Inn, but we thought POR was just lovely.
I head directly to the check-in desk, sure that my room would be ready by 2:30. It wasnt. They said Id be in building 18, just as I requested. I needed a room that was nice & close to ensure utmost relaxation. Since I also wanted to add an additional day onto our 6 day MYW passes, I was directed to the concierge desk. I figured I add an additional day since it would only cost 15.00 for all 5 of us. The CM was not too thrilled with my request. He did apologize for his less than delightful attitude & in about 15 minutes we had our extra day. I checked again, the room still wasnt ready.
Notice how I did all of this while allowing MagicalDad to relax in the lobby with the children? Sometimes you have to make sacrifices in a marriage, dont you?
By 3:00pm we were in the food court, carry-ons & all. MagicalDad went ahead & ordered our food & 5 refillable mugs, while a diligently guarded the luggage. Hard work, but someone has to do it, right?
Then it was time to eat, always fun for our family. The Youth & pre-schooler had pizza. I forgot what everyone else had. Ill never forget that the Youth had pizza. He hated it. Said it was the worse pizza he had ever had. Yep, he was one grouchy Youth.
Finally our room was ready. After getting lose for about 15 minutes & walking all over POR. We found our room. It also was just lovely. As we changed into our swimsuits, the luggage arrived from the Magical Express. Pretty quick huh? We were impressed.
We headed to the pool. Again, we loved it. Of course, we are not used to such fancy pools. The Youth & Teen jumped right in. The pre-Schooler was so happy to see a kitty pool, as he calls it.
MagicalDad asked if I would like a drink. Hmmmmmm, neither of us really drink. Dont care much for it. I havent tasted alcohol in years. I think the last time was at a company Christmas party. OK, Ill have a mudslide.
He buys me a mudslide & heads off to relax at the kitty pool. Mmmmm, the whipped cream is good. Mmmmmm chocolate, always good. I lick the top off & take my first real sip. YUCK! I really cant stand the taste of alcohol.
I make an excuse that I need to head back to the room & shower before dinner & leave that Magical Man there to relax. Well, watch the kids & relax. Once in the room, I pour the drink down the sink. I didnt want to hurt his feelings. What was he thinking? Trying to get me loosened up when we are sharing a room with 3 kids for 8 days????
Eventually they all make it back to the room. I can hear them coming from far away, just like at home. Everyone gets dressed & we head to the Contemporary.
Our first experience with the Disney bus system is on the 4th of July. So, well let those complaints slide. We were expecting crowds.
We arrived at Chef Mickeys about an hour before our dining time. I have a habit of arriving early for everything in my life. I chose to pretend it is part of my well thought out plans. See, everyone can relax before dinner.
Then the Youth starts. It seems that anytime we begin to relax, he becomes very bored. He must be entertained at all times. In order to impress the other guests waiting for seating, we whines loudly for all to hear.
Chef Mickeys again? Do we have to do this every year? Im getting so tired of this place!
Now, he has only been to WDW 5 times. This is only his 2nd time eating at Chef Mickeys. Last year CM was the highlight of his trip. He talked about it constantly since then. He couldn't wait to go back this year? Why is he trying to take my Disney Magic away????
The Teen is just too cool for Chef Mickeys. She slouches in her seat, rolling her eyes. Complaining of exhaustion. I forgot to tell you that she was on the computer all night the evening before IM ing her friends, because that is apparently what teens like to do all night long in the summer.
The Pre-Schooler is in heaven. He just cant wait to get his chance to visit with the characters!
Dinner was fun. MagicalDad relaxed while I took pictures, organized autograph books, filled plates & twirled napkins. It wasnt as much fun as last year. The characters didnt spend much time with us, but it was a holiday after all.
The fireworks began after dinner. We were able to catch a bit of them through the window.
After dinner we caught the monorail for the Magic Kingdom. Then proceeded to get in line for the POR bus. Oh No! What was I thinking, we should have taken a bus to anywhere but MK. We waited & waited for a bus. Giving MagicalDad extra rest time. Hey, standing is much better than walking right?
The poor Pre-Schooler fell asleep while waiting in line. Sometimes I held him to allow MagicalDad to rest his arms. I couldnt do it for long because my arms arent big & strong like his are, but I tried to do my part.
