Why don't American women slouch?

Since my second trip to USA I've been able to spot British women as we nearly all slouch - I was accurate more than 9 times out of 10 without any other clues (mind you it annoyed DH as I'd then feel compelled to follow these people until I heard them speak )

I don't know if there is an answer - sport, gym lessons when young etc. But I'd be interested to know if anyone had any ideas.

Generally speaking, we're not taught about posture. I'm definitely a sloucher and it's a habit which is difficult to unlearn.

I did tons of sport right through to teens and i still slouch!

I used to slouch when I was really fat ,I think to try and look smaller or even better folk would not notice me, I still do it.
Here is another, why do woman stand with legs open, even the news readers and weather woman do it, it really bugs me!! I asked my hubby about it at a bar one night when we were watching a soprts report, the bar man over head and laughed and said thats obvious love!!
Well it bugs me.
Note to myself, stop slouching!!

My mum was always telling me off for slouching ~ it didn't do any good as I still do.

I so agree with you. I live in Spain and notice that the Spanish teenagers have excellent posture compared to the British teens.

lack of ballet and riding lessons? although my postures getting worse due to bad joints (read too mush ballet and riding lessons!)

I sit poker straight on the horse, just cant walk or sit straight!
