I'm at work (temping as a secretary) the phones haven't rung, there's no work to do and only 1 team member here. The one team member here is very junior, although I guess more senior than me.

He said I should just go home....yay! So I thought I'd be good and email my manager (he should pick it up on his blackberry) to ask if it was ok to leave (he was here yesterday and sent me home as there was nothing to do)....

Wha a surprise, no reply! Shall I just go?????????

How much do you trust the other team member to fess up if someone has an objection to your having gone home?

I trust him, he's pretty cool, we've both been the only ones in for a few days and he's my age so I don't think he'd leave me in trouble

Well....I would say work or no work, I wouldn't go home unless my supervisor called and sent me home...IMHO

ITA! Your co-worker is not your boss, no matter how kind. Also, its a little early to say "the phones haven't rung". What time do you usually work until?

I work till 5pm, its nearly 1pm here......
My manager said to me yesterday that there was no need for me to be here if there was nothing to do. I can't guarantee whether he meant in general (refering to while he was away on holiday) or only yesterday when he left early. The guy here today is my superior, not a co-worker. The first thing he said to me this morning was just to stay till 12pm and then go. But I so don't want to get into any trouble.....

I agree with this as well. Unless I were obviously very sick, there is no way I would walk out unless my supervisor told me specifically that I could. A vague statement the day before wouldn't cut it for me. I think it shows poor work ethics if you left after you asked and weren't given permission to do so.

I agree with you, hence I'm still here. I just feel a bit silly as the guy that is here keeps telling me 'no seriously, you really can go home'.....'you really don't need to stay'......'you honestly can go home'.....'PLEASE WILL YOU JUST GO HOME!'

I'm kind of embarrassed to still be sitting here!

My manager replied! I'm out of here! Not back now till I get back from Spain!Yay!
