I have a mere 5 points left that cannot be banked because I borrowed them from my next use year. this happened because we had to change our October vacation. we are now using the points we were going to use for BWV in Oct for part of our stay at the YC in Nov.
so we ended up with 5 left over points, that we will lose if they are not used before Dec 1st.

Is it possible to rent out only 5 points??? or does it have to be enough for a full nights stay???

I figure if I can rent them, $50 is better than nothing!!! :)

thanks!

Laura :)

It's not enough for a room for even one night, so it probably wouldn't be of any use to a non member. However, another member could possibley use them. This would be the simplest. All you have to do then is transfer the points to the member's account and then they could book their own reservations.

I believe you can only do one transfer like this a year, so if you do sell and transfer the points, you won't have this option for another year.

As to whether someone can use the 5 points depends on when they expire, and who needs extra points for a vacation and is willing to buy them. On the other hand, you might work up a trade with someone, trade your 5 points for 5 points of theirs that would expire at a later time. Maybe trade someone who would normally have had to borrow points.

You might put out a post on the rent/trade board and see what happens.

Unfortunately, it will be near to impossible to rent those. You cannot make a ressie for someone using only 5 points thus you would need to transfer them to another member's account. However, you cannot transfer borrowed points to another member's account. Thus, for another member to use them he would have to transfer to you enough points, that added to the five you have, would allow you to be able to reserve a night for the other member. It will be real difficult to find a member who will do that.

oh my goodness, I feel like I was just reading a foreign language!!!

thanks so much for the replies though!!!
that's pretty much what I wanted to know! If it was simple enough I figured it's an easy $50. but it's definately not worth the hassle!!!

thanks for your help!!!

23 days til WDW!!! yipeeeeeeeeee :) :) :)

I'm guessing this is another area that DVC is lax in enforcing but I did just notice this in the Member Guidelines.

Members are expressly prohibited from receiving compensation for engaging in any Transfer activity.

Could you use those 5 points, plus a few more to add on one more night? We had one point left that we had to use, so we borrowed another 7 and got one more day at OKW in at studio. I just hated to lose that one point.

You could always give those points away to someone who might need them. I did that with 3 points that ended up in a holding account when my mother changed her mind about staying at BWV and wanted to be at OKW to get our free park passes. The transfer was very easy and it's better than them going to waste. Hey! Spread a little Disney magic!

What I would do is borrow 3 more points from next year (if you have any) to be able to reserve one night. Hate to see those 5 points disappear.

I'd be more likely to give it away to a relative or friend than rent it out - but most people won't travel so far for one night!

You could rent one night out - see if there are any takers on the rent/trade board.

Or you can give the one night to another DVCer before 11/30/01 with the understanding that they would reserve one night for you of equivilent points sometime in the future.

I read somewhere on this board that someone donated nights reserved by points to charity - maybe you could also donate the one night to charity, you would probably get a tax deduction of $80 since the average rental is $10/pt. I would definitely find a charity that is Florida based since it's only one night.

Anything but lose 5 points! But I guess you could always let them expire...sigh...but I would not be able to watch. Too painful! :(

Good luck!

Robin,

Were those points in the holding account current year points? I don't think you can transfer or give points that are banked or borrowed.

the points were borrowed from next year.
It makes no sense to borrow more for an extra night, cause we're staying at the YC, it was the only resort available (which is fine by me!) for thanksgiving. before we had to make an unexpected change in our plans, we had BWV booked in Oct for 8 nights at 129 points. we had to cancel that, there was no dvc resort available for thanksgiving week, and I wasn't risking a waitlist w/nothing booked, so I booked the YC for 4 nights at 124 points, and we're paying cash for an additional 2 nights (great AP rate of $169 a night!) so to borrow for an additional night at the YC wouldn't be economical, as the next night to add would be a friday night at over 40 pts!!!

I would be more than happy to give away the points, for nothing in return! I'd love to give someone a "disney day"!!!!
I didn't think of it, cause I didn't even know I could do that, or how would I do it?
We've been dvc members for over 4 years, but we arent the types to read all the rules and fine prints! just let me go on vacation and I'm happy!!!

so if anyone wants 5 points, that have to be used by Nov. 30th, just let me know!!!
