A question on adding a day to your park ticket.

When we purchased our tickets for our trip we got the extra days instead of park hoppers thinking it would be better to take an afternoon break. I didn't purchase a day for our arrival day thinking we would do whatever. Now some of the group would like to spend the evening in the park. I know it wouldn't cost a lot to upgrade. My questions are do you have to wait until you use them the first time or can you do right before you go into the park? The other question is if you have to go in the park first will that cancel out another days fast passes? Trying to decide what we want to do.

If purchased as a package deal (room + tickets) from disney then you can do it right from the resort. If standalone tickets or reseller sold tickets then you do not need to use to add a day or upgrade, just stop by and any ticket booth (guest relations if going to mk that night and using disney transportation) and upgrade.. You could also do it inside mk after you use the ticket, they have a dedicated ticket office near hall of presidents now which is usually very empty.

the only thing you can't do is upgrade it online or over the phone, the upgrade would need to take place in person.

Also you didn't mention what type of ticket, if this is a convention ticket or military option, check the fine print, some of them can't be upgraded.

Sorry some have a 9 day park pass from undercover tourist. We have all 9 days planned with fp and don't want to use a day the first night and lose them. Thank you

You can do this by phone as well if purchased through Disney and you will not lose your FP already booked. I added a day onto our tickets before we left and did so over the phone!

1. Nope.
2. You can.

Nobody would lose any FPs already booked, regardless, if the tickets are upgraded
before entering a park (or within a reasonable time after entering the first park.)

Beware trying to do it on the phone. I am in the same situation (decided after purchasing a package that we want to go to a park on arrival day). People here on the DIS estimated that switching our 7 day base ticket to 8 day would be around $10 per person, but when I called the CM quoted me $80 per person. Apparently the phone CMs aren't always in the know, so we're just waiting till we get there to add the extra day.

The OP has to upgrade at the parks - tickets were purchased through UT.

@joyjoy ~ try calling again and ask to upgrade your package tickets. Upgrade as soon as you find a CM who gives you the correct pricing.

The difference we paid was the difference in tickets only - 6 day hoppers and water park cost vs the cost of what 7 days would be. Worked out to around $50 I think for the 4 of us , give or take a few $$

diskat, you won't "lose" any FP booked. If people have 9 day tickets and decide that they want to enter a park for 10 days, without going to GR or a booth to add one, then you lose the last day's park entry (and associated FP) because all 9 days have been used.

So, just add a day when you all get there or by day 9 of park entry. Scheduled FP are safe.

@diskat ~ if you enter a park before adding on day #10, you'll need to add on a ticketed day to keep all FPs for your last park day. The system refreshes your FPs against ticket entitlements within a day and a half of entering the first park.

You'll need to add on a ticket for day #10 within that timeframe to keep your Day #10 FPs intact.

If you upgrade discounted tickets before using them once you will lose the discount.
