A question for teachers or anyone who might know

Around here parents have a right to review their children's files. They have a right to put a letter in the file if they disagree with anything in the file.
But the file is a permanent record that can not be modified.

Thanks for all the advice everyone! I will head over to the school in the morning and ask to see the guidance counselor there. Hopefully she can steer me in the right direction or explain what can/needs to be done.

I did tell ds it means nothing in the grand scheme of things...obviously this was something they discussed that obviously no one felt had merit after he started Special Education classes. Only thing I can come up with since they never discussed with me?

I pulled it back out and what it actually says "Displays symptoms of Autism" and underneath that it lists several things "verbal digression" "lack of communication skills" etc

I'm really really confused by that being put on a transcript thought - true or not. It sounds like information put into a report or conference notes, not definitive information or diagnoses put on a legal document. I'm sure you've looked through it many times, but does it actually see "official transcripts" on top?

Yes, it says "Official Transcripts" and this entry is typed in the area where there is Special Education. Could be whoever entered it did not know it was 'notes' from a discussion and entered the information..don't know. But hopefully its something that can be removed. Short of going to the dr and being evaluated I have no idea how I would even prove he isn't autistic? I guess in the grand scheme of things he COULD be but with enough early intervention he was able to progress? I know nothing about this type of thing. I would assume we would notice something or at least the dr would have suggested it being a possibility?
