A question for praticing Catholics

Thanks for all of the information!!! I found Catholic church in my hometown that I may visit this weekend. So, there isn't a "preaching" service as there is in Protestant churches?

LOL paras4ri! :teeth:

It is funny the importance that is sometimes placed upon some of the small symbolic things. Oftentimes I think that we place more value on things like having the head covered, and not eating meat on Fridays, etc, than we do on matters of theology.

My Church has bells, and so doesn't most of the Churches in that area :)

So, there isn't a "preaching" service

The Gospel is followed by a Homily (or sermon) by the priest. This usually relates to the other readings but, depending on the priest, can also be on another topic.

It seems as if the bells are coming back in many churches. Our parish actually has more of a gong -- but we have a lot of unusual touches...including an unusual pastor. ;)

I'm not sure if one of the major differences between Catholic and Protestant beliefs about communion was mentioned. While most (if not all) Protestant faiths see this as a "symbol" Catholics believe that the bread and wine are truly turned into the body and blood of Christ during the Eucharist.

Here's an interesting site that I haven't fully explored but might be helpful in your research

We still have the bells at our Parish and did at the Parish I grew up in for 33 years. I would find it funny to not have them.

I'm trying to think back to when we went to Mass at Mary Queen of the Universe in Orlando back in October. Don't know if I heard bells or not - maybe I heard them in my head as I was expecting them!

Do you miss the "bells" during the Eucharist preparation? I do! I somehow still expect to hear them.
I do! And I hear them in my head at the approriate time. There are 2 other churches here who still use them. :teeth: I like going to those churches. I generally like them better but have to go to the one I'm at because it has a great school that DS attends. Politics!!

I was under the impression she's no longer a "practicing" catholic. I believe that 4:00 p.m. on Saturday is the cutoff time for the mass to count for the Sunday obligation. If it's said prior to 4:00, it's not counted for that obligation. It's a mass you're attending "for Saturday," not Sunday.
