what is the policy for taking a child out for vacation during school that is in kindergarten? how many unexcused days am i allowed? this will be our first full time year in school for my girls and they havent sent anything home about this?? thinking of pulling them out in may..thanks..also what are ur thoughts about doing this? is it frowned upon? someone told me kindergarten wasnt mandatory so that pulling them out wouldnt matter?? is this correct...

Every school district is different. At least in GA they are. Some are strict (mine is) and some aren't.

When school starts, you should receive a parent handbook that will tell you what the school policy is regarding absences as well as a bunch of other stuff. Some schools have it on their websites or the school website for the county. You may want to try looking there.

I hope you have a lenient school district. It's no fun having a tough one. Good Luck. :flower3:

I am a New Jersey teacher. Congrats on your child's entering kindergarten! How exciting!

Every school district has different attendance policies. Your child should have a student handbook of some sorts. In my district, this is the front half of the homework agenda each child receives. If not, go on the district website. You should be able to find information on the school or parents' page or under the Board of Ed. policies.

Although every teacher is different, I usually have no problems with my students being pulled out for a few days to be with their families. As long as I receive at least a week's notice to get work together for them and it isn't during state testing, I am fine with it. If it becomes an on-going thing during the school year though I do become concerned.

Your my kind of teacher!!!!:thumbsup2

we were thinking of taking them out a few days during jersey week but thought nov was too soon..figured by may the teacher wouldhave a relationship with me and wouldbe ok with them being pulled out for a couple of days...last year my girls were out 17 days with bronchitis, pneumonia, flu, asthma, u name it...so i dont know what to expect..would like an opinion from you? we at one time tossed the idea around to move to fl but my husband thinks the school system sucksin fl and that they are more likely to be college bound living here..any opinion on that...NO FLAMERS people.

Heck, Jersey Week is one of the BEST times to pull them out in my district of NJ. Only two days lost for a full week's vacation, since the schools are usually closed for Election Day on that Tuesday as well.
