A Question for all of you with multiple add ons

We bought 200 points in July and like all of you we realized pretty quickly that we need more (sounds familar ) and now have the add on fever.

I just want to purchase 50-60 points. I called my guide yesterday who told me it will be $112.00 pp minus $8.00 pp plus we will get a 15% cast member discount. Great incentive to me!! So here are my questions........

Since it is only 50-60 points, would it make more sense just to add on to my home resort at SSR or should I do a different home resort for that amount of points (like BLT) BUT with the points rising I am not sure how far that will get me at a different resort? My second question: Do I or should I keep my same use year?

I would love to hear thoughts on what everyone did with 50 point add ons!!

Thanks

Mimmiepnp :)

you can bank or borrow to use a 50 pt BLT contract to book BLT at 11 months with up to 150 pts every 3rd year or 100 pts every other year.

OTOH, those BLT points will not be available to book SSR or the THV until 7 months out, so you would have to decide how you intended to use them.

My second question: Do I or should I keep my same use year?

if you add-on directly fewer than 160 pts, you have no choice but to get the same UY month.

After our first purchase in 1997, we also knew we needed more points. We had the same conflict you are having now, and we decided it made most sense for us to add on those extra points at our current resort to have all points available at the same place and time. If you had more than 200 points in your first contract I might advise differently, but with only 200, I'd add them on to your current resort.

If I were you, I would decide if there really was a time that we wanted to stay at BLT, say around Halloween because it would be easy to get back after MNSSHP or around NYE. If the 50-60 points would allow you to do that even every other, or every third year, then I would buy the BLT points. At the current price level, I think BLT is the better buy.

We began with 200 BWV points (they were "new" points) and immediately added on 50 VWL points because that is our favorite resort. We've since expanded to more resorts and more points, but we were very happy with our 50 points purchase, and stayed there for a weekend shortly after we bought. That was our first DVC stay.

Given the discount you will get, I think that makes BLT a great deal.

SSR can be bought through resale for a lot less than Disney direct, even given your CM discount. But BLT can't and I think that it would make sense to go that route.

Given that you are considering 50 - 60 points, have you priced out what 100 would cost? At the 100 point level, I think you would get $14.00 off per point. If you still got your CM discount, you would be getting BLT for less than $82.00 per point! A fantastic deal, IMO (maybe I need to try to get a job at my local Disney store??:rotfl:)

Just something to think about!

Maybe this is just a blonde moment on my part, but I didn't think you got the $8 pp incentive for contracts under 100 points. I spoke to my guide yesterday and that is the info I got.:confused3

We added on our original 185 points at BWV 50 more, for a total of 235. But then I fell in love with AKV so we added 50 points on there. Part of me wishes we did that last 50 at BW instead of AKV. First, because 50 points doesn't get much and I'm always into borrowing instead of banking/saving up points, so at most we get a night or two once a year at AKV. Second because it would be easier to have the 11 month window to book rooms for all 285 of our points. Although, I LOVE AKV and we really like the 2057 expire date.....all of this equals.....wanting to add on there again, but price per point is just to high.....gotta shop the resale market if we are seriously considering this. I guess all and all I'm trying to say, I wish we stuck with one resort instead of two....

Kristytru, my guide did indeed say $8.00 pp for 50 points which he said would be a deduction of $400.00.

So based on all my calculations, I am not sure if I should do just 50 points at SSR which my guide said I would also get 50 2008 points as well as my 50 2009 point or be greedy (but maybe not so economically smart) and get 100 points at BLT with the incentives as well as the 15% CM discount.

I need help as I do not know which way to go!! :confused3

For existing members yes, you do at BLT, provided you purchase at least 50 points. A 100 or more point add-on would then also receive either an additional credit ($6 or $8 based on # of points purchased) or a DCL cruise (length varies based on points purchased). DVCNews.com has the incentive breakdowns written out very well. http://dvcnews.com/content/view/227/173/

It is a "fun" decision process to go through! LOL I just got off the phone with my guide about an hour ago telling her to up our VGC purchase. I think if you really want to be able to stay at BLT and can afford the 100 points, go for it.

If you decide on a different resort other than your home (for the 11 month booking) make sure you now when you want to go and how often - buy that many points. You'll avoid the banking/borrowing headache - unless you don't go every year. We started with 150 at BCV and did an almost immediate add-on at WL for 70 points (1 week in a studio) - all good and well until we quit staying in studios!

We own at 4 resorts and like it that way so we have an 11 month advantage on where we want for a particular time of year. We did buy the add-ons in multiple small contracts - easier to sell that way if you ever need to. (We got rid/sold our SSR and replaced them with AKV).

Although I don't think you can sell them when you use the CM discount except to Disney - I don't think you are supposed to rent them either. All ours were bought with the CM discount. The rules changed when people were making profits selling their points - we made money on our SSR points.
