A question for all of our DIS Teachers

I just registered and will be taking the Praxis I test (for Elementary Education) on 4/26. I bought a study guide today at Borders, and spent about a half an hour today reading through it. All the test material seems very easy and basic, and I feel like I'm missing something. Is the Praxis test difficult, or is it as easy as the study guide is making it appear?

I don't think that you are missing anything...it really is a pretty easy test. The sample tests that are provided in the study guides are usually comparable to the actual test that you will take in April. Good luck on the test!

Any prospects for a job for you next September? You can join the rest of us poor slobs who have to visit Disney at the most crowded times or the unbearable months of July and August.

Thanks, crs7568. After going through the study guide, I was concerned that I was missing something; the practice tests seem so easy. Other than brusing up on some areas (geometry, mainly!), studying for this shouldn't be a problem. Any words of advice about the Praxis I?

I actually enjoy the warm/hot weather (I grew up in CA, what can I say ), so going in the summertime doesn't bother me. So far no job prospects, but if all else fails, I can become a teacher of all things Disney!

I just completed my last of seven Praxis exams for elementary ed this past January. I didn't really study much for the reading, writing, math or listening. I did study some for the others. I used the Tests at a Glance off the website to get the "feel" of what the tests would be like. I didn't buy any of the books, but had a great friend that passed her books on to me. (I just gave them away last week to a complete stranger...wish you would have posted this sooner and I would have mailed them to you. )


Anyway, my advice is to check the Tests at a Glance on the website to see the fromat of each test, get a good night sleep, do the best you can, then forget about it until the results come. For each test I took, I felt as though I did awful, but passed with very high scores! feel free to PM me with any questions.

Reading this thread with interest. I'm certified in WA state, but depending on where (and if) we move I may be taking this test as well.

My advice is to stay calm and get a good sleep the night before the test. I wish someone had given that advice to the woman next to me when I took my test. Do you know how some people yawn very loudly and make the "Haaw" sound when they yawn? This woman was doing it every couple of minutes. I thought it was a little bit funny because she was making such a spectacle of herself, but it must have been really distracting to other people because someone finally asked the proctor to tell her to stifle her yawns. Anyway, you will do fine.
