Sorry if I grosses anyone out, but any parents of toddlers out there that have toddlers that only have marbles when they have a BM? DD never does anything but marbles and although she never looks like she's in distress I'm not sure it's normal. I've tried prunes, apples, little tummies and the only thing that worked was the little tummies and then it worked too well if you catch my drift. I've been hesitant to post this but I don't have any friends with toddlers so I don't know what to go by. I've tried mineral oil too.

Thanks.

It is not that easy with the little ones, but I'd try to get her to drink a couple of glasses of water a day and see if that helps. Also, try to increase her fiber intake. I would avoid laxatives unless your doctor gives the ok.

She is probably fine unless they are rock hard, but you definately don't want her constipated because that can lead to problems with the bowel stretching.

Have you spoken with your Dr?? That would be the first place I'd go to find out if I should be worried or what to do about it.

I had two kids that did this, I took them to the dr and they put them on Miralax. . Good luck.

Our Dr. is the one that suggested the mineral oil and little tummies. Whenever I bring her in I keep looking for suggestions, but other than what was mentioned above they suggest a gastroenterologist (sp?) I'll bring her to a chiropractor before I do that. I just want to go the natural route before anything drastic.

Are you sure you didn't give birth to a rabbit?

If so, she's the noisiest rabbit I've ever encountered. :teeth:

Um, I freely admit I don't have kids, but I am confused as to how a chiropractor is going to help with marble poop??

Our little one isn't a toddler, she's six. She has the same problem but she does have pain sometimes. We try to make sure she drinks enough and eats enough fiber but not much helps. Her eating habits were pretty set when we got her 22 months ago but we try as best we can. I asked the doc and she suggested Miralax but ONLY after making sure she's well hydrated every day.

I just wanted to add: proceed with caution if the doc. suggests the Miralax route. My sister worked for an endocrinologist and he said that Miralax *can* stunt growth. This was after my niece was on it for a couple years. In her case it was necessary, but I'd try other things first. My niece has the "stretching" problem mentioned previously and it's just plain awful. She's 6 and still has problems all the time!

Good Luck!

If you are not getting results from your doctor, seek a second opinion. Don't mess with children and different remedies. Most are safe for us but can really harm our children.

I am a Certified Pharmacy Technician and one rule we teach our new techs is that it is easier to hurt/kill a child under 6 than to hurt an adult. That way we always pay attention to the children's ages before processing prescriptions.

Talk to or see another doctor.

I would take my child to see a pediatric gastroenterologist... There is nothing wrong with miralax. My son developed major problems, and was on it for months... he is the tallest kid in his class!!! LOL!!! Also, most doctors will tell you that mineral oil can cause problems... They do not recommend it for regular use over any period of time. Both the Ped. and the gastroenterlolgist prescribed the Miralax... It was a GODSEND for my DS!

I would be very concerned about possible bowel problems. This can become serious. (see previous posters comments......) It is all to easy for a youngsters system to get to where it just does not operate normally! It can get to where it simply does not retain the necessary liquids. Miralax is not like a chemical laxative. It simply retains the moisure. I would see the specialist....

Hope this helps! :D

Chiropractors can "adjust" not "crack" little ones to supposedly get their systems flowing so to speak. I didn't say I believed it would work but I would try that before something drastic.

How much water does she drink everyday?

Whenever I give her juice, I fill it 2 ounces of apple juice and 6 ounces of water and we do that about 3 times a day. Other than that, she drinks about 8 ounces of milk a day.

If you've tried all the usual stuff (apple juice, prune juice, increased fruit intake, fiber cereal, increased water intake) and it's still occurring, I'd go to the Pediatric Gastroenterologist. If there's a rpoblem, you'll be catching it early, and if there's not a problem, you will have heard it from a specialist and it will put your mind at ease.

Lots of water, apple/prune juice, and green veggies. Lactose in dairy products can cause those problems. We switched DD to a lactose free Milk.

AMEN!!! All HAIL TO THE MIRALAX!!!

My dd who is now almost 8, has been bad since off nursing. Did the mineral oil forever. If I went to see the gastro right away (bad mommy) I would have gotten relief for my dd long ago. I just didn't know.

She started the Miralax in March 04, still on it. In fact she may be on it for years since her colon is so stretched out.
