A question about reservations...

im a newbie,,, and i was wondering if you have to make reservations in advance (2 restaurtants, character bfasts, wat not) or you can make them wen you check in at the hotel. thanks

You can do either. I would recommend calling in advance, because then you are more likely to get the time you want to eat.

Yes you can and should make them in advance, as early as 180 days in advance. You should make them as soon as you have decided on plans.

You can also (attempt to) make them at any time after your arrival. You may not be able to get the restaurants and times that you want, but it is still worth trying. A reservation made a day (or less) in advance counts the same as one made 6 months in advance.

With the dining plan becoming more and more popular, it is getting harder and harder to get "last minute" dining reservations. These boards are full of posters saying they tried to book 180 days out and still didn't get the restaurant of their choice. There are also others (not as many) that say they were able to get a "last minute" dining reservation.

My suggestion is you call as soon as possible and schedule your dining reservations.

Depending on what the restaurant is I think some can be made while in WDW. If your not looking for a very popular place like a character meal, or a fine dinning place like California Grill, there are other restaurants that can be made at the last minute. Remember that not every place is booked 365 days a year and people always cancel ADR's.

Last August when I was in the lobby of the Contemporary, I heard someone make a last minute ADR for Hoop Dee Doo for that day. It was for the 1st setting but this person still got it. So there is an example of someone getting a popular location at the last minute.

The same trip my family and I had lunch before at the Plaza with an ADR that we got at the very last minute. I would not call the Plaza one of the more popular dinning locations in the Magic Kingdom like Crystal Palace, however the point is we got it and this was during free dinning in 2006, which my family and I did not purchase.
